BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's and women's swimming and diving teams will make their final home appearances of the 2012 season on Saturday, January 21 starting at 2:00 pm at Alumni Arena Natatorium. The UB men will face Mid-American Conference rival Miami (OH) while the women host MAC member Bowling Green. In conjunction with the Senior Day activities, the teams will sponsor a "Hope Floats" fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society.
As part of the fundraising efforts at the meet, "Hope Floats" t-shirts and cancer ribbon cookies will be for sale. Additionally, there will be a 50/50 raffle and a raffle consisting of prizes including gift certificates and merchandise from local vendors. Among the raffle items are a set of women's Roxy skis, a $100 gift certificate to Dick's Sporting Goods, and Vera Bradley tote bags. Lavender, which is the universal cancer color, will be prominent throughout the fundraiser as the UB swim teams hope to show support and bring the community together with the common goal of fighting and beating cancer. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society for cancer research.
Head coach Andy Bashor commented on the fundraiser and praised his team members for coordinating the event. "We are excited to have the opportunity to run our fundraiser, "Hope Floats". Three sophomores on the team, Kelsey Barbour, Taylor Lansing, and Katelyn Grimm, have been the driving force behind this event and we are so proud of them in making this event a success. This is the first year we are having this event and we look forward to making this event even bigger and better for many years to come. So please come out and support our cause and cheer on the UB Bulls swimming and diving teams."
Along with the fundraising activities, the Bulls will also be hosting their annual Senior Day honoring men's team members Chris Berloth, Jared Heine, Colin Patrican and Curtis Williams and women's swimmers Keri Chandler, Brynn Marecki, Amanda Reall and Alie Schirmers.
