
Simon Proudfoot Named to Academic All-MAC Men's Swimming Team

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo's Simon Proudfoot has been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Team. The league announced its awards from its Cleveland headquarters on Wednesday.
Proudfoot, a junior management major with a 3.221 GPA, earned second-team All-MAC honors at the league championships in Carbondale, IL as the Bulls won their first MAC team title. He was part of three record setting UB relay teams as he helped the 200-, 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays to victories. Proudfoot also scored championship points in all three of his individual races. He placed third in the 50-yard freestyle in 20.62 and set the MAC's fastest qualifying time of 20.39 in the preliminary heats. The Jacksonville, FL native also took sixth in the 100-yard freestyle in 45.15 (posting a season-best 44.89 in the preliminaries) and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:40.55 after he had set a season-best time of 1:39.05 in the preliminaries.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered. The Academic All-MAC team is voted on by the league's faculty athletic representatives.
