
Bulls Drop Five-Set Match To Miami

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team ended the home portion of its season on Saturday night with a tough five set loss to Miami (OH). The Bulls will have two matches left next week as they try to qualify for the 2011 MAC Tournament.
The RedHawks took the contest 19-25, 25-16, 25-20, 22-25, 15-12 despite the Bulls outhitting Miami (OH) .216 to .212. The Bulls finished with 20 more kills than Miami and five digs, but 32 hitting errors haunted Buffalo.
The Bulls came out strong in the first set as they went on an 8-3 run in the middle of the set to take a 16-13 lead. UB got its lead up to eight at 23-15 before taking the set 25-19. However, the RedHawks responded in the second set as the Bulls hit just -.029, giving Miami (OH) the 25-16 victory. The RedHawks again came through in the third with 25-20 win.
Buffalo responded in the fourth, going on a 6-2 run to take a 15-11 lead. The Bulls got the lead up to eight again at 22-14 and they fought off a Miami (OH) comeback to take it 25-22 and force a fifth and deciding set. The fifth set remained tight for much of it as the two teams were tied on 10 separate occasions. The Bulls went on to take a 12-11 lead, but that would be there final points as the RedHawks scored the final four points for the victory.
Sophomore Dana Musil led the way with a career-high 22 kills, while freshman Liz Scott added 18 kills and Carissa McKenna had 11. Sophomore Dani Reinert added four kills, a match-high 51 assists and 12 digs, while Scott finished with the double-double adding a career-high 17 digs.
Freshman Alessandra Jovy-Heuser finished with a career-best four service aces, while three other players each had one. Jovy-Heuser added four total blocks, including two solos. McKenna led the way in the blocking department with five blocks.
As a team, UB had four players in double figures in digs as Musil also had a double-double with 12 digs and sophomore Kelly Svoboda finished with 11.
The Bulls will now hit the road for their final two regular season matches next weekend. UB faces Ohio on Friday night and Kent State on Saturday night. Both matches are scheduled for 7:00 pm.
