
Bulls Fall Short Against Ohio, 3-1

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team started off strong on Saturday night, taking the first set, but ultimately fell to Ohio, 3-1, at Alumni Arena. The loss drops UB's record to 9-11 on the season and 2-4 in the MAC.
The Bobcats took the contest 25-27, 25-21, 25-22, 25-12 as they outhit the Bulls, .190 to .130. Again it was errors that cost UB as it finished with 31 hitting errors and 14 service errors.
The Bulls came out firing in the first set, leading by as many as four at 19-15. The Bobcats would fight back to tie it up at 24-24, but the Bulls would score the final two points to take the set.
The second and third sets were close with Buffalo having opportunities in each set to take advantage. However, the Bobcats would ride their momentum from second and third set victories to defeat the Bulls in the fourth, 25-12.
"I thought we did some things better tonight than last night, but we still need to fight all match and we didn't in that fourth set," said head coach Todd Kress. "We will have to continue to improve this week as we get ready for another tough weekend."
The Bulls were led by 18 kills from Liz Scott and 14 kills from Dana Musil. Freshman Alessandra Jovy-Heuser and senior Abby Niekamp each added seven kills. Musil completed the double-double with 15 digs, while sophomore Dani Reinert also had a double-double with 45 assists and a career-high 21 digs.
Jovy-Heuser paced the Buffalo blocking performance with a career-best four solo blocks. Reinert and Carissa McKenna each added a solo block as well. Sophomore Kelly Svoboda added 14 digs.
The Bulls remain home next weekend as they host Western Michigan on Friday night at 7:00 pm.
