
Bulls Swept By Western Michigan, 3-0

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team had a tough time Friday night against Western Michigan, falling to the Broncos, 3-0, at Alumni Arena. The loss is UB's third straight and drops it to 9-12 on the season and 2-5 in the MAC.
The Broncos took the contest, 25-16, 25-17, 26-24 despite neither team hitting overly well. WMU held the advantage at .189 to .072. The Bulls put forth a much better effort at the service line, with just four errors in the match.
WMU led by as many as nine in the opening set as it got out to a 17-8 lead. That would be the final margin of victory in the set as the Broncos took it 25-16. The second set was close early on as the teams were tied at 15-15. However, the Broncos would score six straight points and 10 of the final 12 to take the second set.
The Bulls had their best opportunity in the third as they went on a 5-1 run with things tied at 15-15 to take a 20-16 lead in the set. The Bulls would continue to lead at 24-22, but were unable to convert on two set points and WMU scored the final four points of the set to take the match.
Sophomore Dana Musil led the way with nine kills, while Christine Fritsche and Abby Niekamp each had six. Freshman Liz Scott finished with five kills. Defensively, sophomore Kelly Svoboda had 16 digs, while Dani Reinert added 15. Musil just missed the double-double with nine digs. Reinert also ran the offense with 27 assists. Freshman Alessandra Jovy-Heuser had a match-high, four blocks, including two solos.
The Bulls are back in action tomorrow night as they wrap up a four-match homestand against Northern Illinois. The contest starts at 6:00 pm and will be UB's Dig For The Cure Match. Fans in attendance tomorrow night are encouraged to wear pink.
