Bulls Snap Scoreless Streak, Tie Ball State
Two goals in the first half stopped the team's scoreless streak, but Ball State scored two goals in the second to force a double-overtime tie Friday evening at UB Stadium, 2-2.
Sophomore Natasha Arana helped the Bulls strike first in the game, scoring her team-leading third goal of the season in the 29th minute. Junior defender Angela Nicholas put a free kick on the Ball State goalie, who knocked the high kick down but bobbled it when trying to maintain control. Arana collected the loose ball and tucked it into the right corner for the goal.
After the first goal was scored from right in the box, the Bulls went long-distance with its next score. Sophomore Shannon Algoe took a free kick from 45 yards away with the hopes of putting a good ball in the box. Instead, her kick kept sailing all the way over the Cardinal goalie's outstretched hand to put Buffalo up 2-0 in the 43rd minute. The goal was the defender's second of the season.
Bulls Lose Late Against Toledo
It was a tale of two halves for the Buffalo women's soccer squad Sunday afternoon at UB Stadium. After being outshot 9-2 in the first half and giving up an early goal to the Toledo Rockets, the team came out with a purpose in the second half but were denied an upset opportunity thanks to a late Toledo goal.
After giving up one goal in the first half, the Bulls came out charging in the second half, keeping the ball on the Rockets' side of the field and putting strong shots on the net. The team's aggression paid off as freshman Karen McMahon was fouled hard by the goalie after dribbling the ball in on the left side, drawing a yellow card for the goalie and a penalty kick for the Bulls. Senior Lindsey Bailey made the most of the opportunity, shooting the ball to the right past the keeper to even the score at one apiece.
Just minutes later, Toledo scored off a cross to put it back up, 2-1 in the 83rd minute for the eventual game-winning score.

The loss puts Buffalo at 1-13-2 for the season and 0-6-2 in MAC play. The team will have its final home game Friday Oct. 22 against Ohio to close out a five-game home stand. It will also be senior day for the Bulls, as the team will recognize six seniors: Courtney McHale, Julie Dale, Martina Pettennuzzo, Nina Connell and Kristen and Lindsey Bailey. Kickoff is set for 5:30 pm at UB Stadium.
The match against the Bobcats will be a critical one for the Bulls' playoff hopes. At 2-3-3 in the MAC, Ohio currently sits as the eighth seed should the MAC season end today. The Bulls' final three games will come against all three teams that are currently ahead of Buffalo in the Eastern Division standings. Should the team sweep its final three matches, a playoff berth is still mathematically possible.
