Bulls Drop First Game of Homestand, 3-0
Mother nature welcomed the Bulls' women's soccer team back to UB Stadium with a blustery evening as the team fell to Central Michigan 3-0 in the team's first home game in over a month. The Chippewas took advantage of a physical match with an early goal and didn't look back. Freshman goalie Ainsley Wheldon set a career high in saves in the loss.
Wheldon made 12 saves, marking the fourth time this season that she has recorded double-digit saves. Three of those games have been recorded in conference play.
Eagles Hold off Aggressive Bulls Offense
Despite a nearly 3-1 advantage in shots, the Bulls offense came up just short of handing Eastern Michigan its first Mid American Conference loss. A single goal off a deflected save proved to be the only score in the game as the Bulls fell 1-0 at UB Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Bulls set a season high with 21 total shots, nine of which were put on goal. The offense was keyed by junior forward Aubrey Stahl, who took one the more promising shots of the game after taking a through ball all the way to the box before being snuffed out by the EMU defense. Stahl put three of her four shots on goal.
By the Numbers
Wheldon's 39 saves in MAC play puts her first overall through six games and her 82 overall saves and 6.31 saves per game are good for number two overall among conference goalies. The Waterloo, Ontario native is only 15 saves away from cracking the all-time single season saves list.
