AKRON, OH – Junior Kourtney Brown became the second fastest player in school history to reach the 1,000 –point mark, however the Bulls fell 72-56 on Saturday afternoon to the Akron Zips at Rhodes Arena. Brown finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
The Bulls got off to a quick start to the game, as they held a four-point lead with 13:04 left in the opening half. However, following an Abby Dowd three with 11:50 remaining in the half, the UB offense would go cold, failing to record another field goal for the rest of the half. Brown was able to keep the Bulls in the game though as she went 8-for-11 in the opening 20 minutes from the free throw line.

The second half would be a little more challenging for UB, who was playing without Dowd as she was injured in the first half. The Bulls did get quality minutes from freshman Chrissy Cooper, who played the entire half, most of it at point guard. During the first seven minutes of the half, Akron got its lead up to 12, but the Bulls fought back with a 14-4 run, including eight points from Cooper during the run. The Bulls kept it a one possession game, but the Zips responded with a 10-0 run and never looked back as they hit free throws late.
The Bulls were led by Brown as her 20 points gave her 1,000 for her career, the second fastest player to do so behind UB Hall of Famer Tiffany Bell. Brown added 14 rebounds for her fifth straight double-double and she also added five blocks. Cooper set career highs with 13 points, five rebounds and five assists. Cooper went 3-of-5 from behind the arc.
