Bulls Drop MAC Opener To Miami, 3-1

OXFORD, OH – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team dropped its first Mid-American Conference match of the season on Friday night as the Bulls fell at Miami (OH), 3-1, at Millet Hall. The loss drops UB to 9-5 on the year and 0-1 in the conference.
The RedHawks took the match 19-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-21 as Miami hit .233 for the match, opposed to just .183 for UB. The Bulls took the first set as they hit .400, but failed to reach the .250 mark for the final three sets, while Miami had its best hitting performance in the second.
The Bulls were led by 16 kills from junior Marisa Hornbaker, who hit .412 for the match. Senior Dani Silvers added 11 kills, while Kristin Bignell had eight. Sophomore Abby Niekamp finished with seven kills and just one error on the night.
Junior Lindsey Schlegel had 37 assists and a match-high 18 digs, while freshman Tori Beckman added 13 digs and two service aces. Senior Lauren Fensten reached double figures with 11 digs.
Miami was led by 14 kills from Maria Leahy and 13 kills from Hallie Hanks. Andrea Atteberry added 39 assists, while Lisa Treadway had 17 digs.
The Bulls are back in action tomorrow as they play at Bowling Green. The match is set to begin at 3:00 pm.
