Tony Miller begins his eighth season overall, and his sixth as Associate Head Coach, in 2025-26. Miller has served on the UB staff since his graduation in 2017.
Miller helped guide the Bulls to a historic season in 2024-25 as they recorded an 18-8 overall record and a 9-1 mark in league play, en route to winning the MAC regular season and tournament championship titles for the first time since 2017. The top-seeded Bulls defeated Ball State in the semifinals before rallying to take down Western Michigan in the championship match to earn a spot in the NCAA Tournament, where they fought hard but fell to Ohio State in the first round.
The 2022-23 season was an important one for Nickell and the Bulls as they showed great improvement, finishing with a 9-9 overall record and earned the number four seed in the 2023 Mid-American Conference Tournament, the first appearance for UB since 2019. Overall, the team was 105-105 in singles action with five players recording double-digit win totals. The team excelled in doubles play, going 64-43 overall. Individually, junior Aleksandr Kalinin earned First Team All-MAC honors while fifth year Simon Wibler earned a spot on the Second Team.
Despite a 2019-20 season that was cut short due to COVID-19, Miller was part of a staff that managed to set a new milestone for UB tennis as senior Vilhelm Fridell became the first ever UB player to earn a national award by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Fridell was named the national winner of the ITA Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award, becoming the first ever Mid-American Conference player to earn a national award from the ITA. Fridell was also the regional award winner for the Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award and the Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award.
In 2018-19, Miller was an assistant coach for a Buffalo squad that finished 6-1 in Mid-American Conference play, earning a number two seed in the MAC Tournament. Buffalo finished the season ranked eighth in the Northeast region and senior Ethan Nittolo finished the year regionally ranked in singles. During the year, Miller helped three UB players earn All-MAC honors and guided the team to their first ever win over Ivy League foe, Harvard.
Prior to his season as assistant coach, Miller spent the 2017-18 year as a volunteer assistant. Miller played for the Bulls for three seasons and holds the distinction of being the only UB men's tennis player to be a part of both NCAA Tournament teams (2015 & 2017).
During his senior season, Miller excelled in doubles with Nittolo as the pair went 12-7 at third doubles. He was named an Academic All-MAC selection following his senior year.
Miller graduated from the University at Buffalo in 2017 with a degree in Communications.
