Erik Silis is the Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance, arriving to UB in 2016. He is tasked with the oversight of the day-to-day compliance needs for 11 of UB’s 16 sports. This includes monitoring and educating on NIL, recruiting, initial and continuing eligibility, playing and practice seasons, camps and clinics, personnel, awards and benefits, amateurism, interpretive questions, waivers, violations and all other aspects of NCAA, Mid-American Conference and UB rules as they apply to the department’s student-athletes and coaches.
Prior to joining the University at Buffalo, Erik spent 3 years at the University of Illinois and 3 years at the University of Texas in their respective compliance offices in various roles. At these institutions, Erik monitored on and off-campus recruiting, playing and practice seasons, the NLI program, camps and clinics, awards and benefits, team travel and issued NCAA, Big 10 and Big 12 rule interpretations, violations and waivers.
Erik graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management and the University of Texas with a master’s degree in Administration/Higher Education. He currently serves on the NAAC Professional Development Committee, UB’s Stronger Together Task Force, and is a member of the Mid-American Conference Mentor-Mentee program.
Erik and his loving wife Lauren reside in Buffalo, NY with their dog Walley.
