Buffalo Athletics is committed to providing a safe, supportive and affirming community conducive to equal access and participation for student-athletes, coaches, staff and supporters of all gender identities and sexual orientations.

#SPIRITDay
In 2023, our annual event was held in conjunction with many of our sport teams competitions: Women’s Soccer vs. Toledo on October 19, and Volleyball vs. Ball State on October 21. We are excited to promote the mission of GLAAD, the Alberti Center and IDC as part of our annual celebration.
What is Spirit Day? LGBTQ youth disproportionately face bullying and harassment because of their identities. Each year, millions go PURPLE for Spirit Day to support LGBTQ youth in a united stand against bullying. Pledging to “go purple" on Spirit Day is a way for everyone — global and local brands and companies, world leaders, celebrities, neighbors, parents, classmates, and friends — to visibly show solidarity with youth and to take part in the largest, most visible LGBTQ anti-bullying campaign in the world.
SAFE ZONE TRAINING
Safe Zone training is an opportunity to learn more about gender and sexual identities and issues facing and within the LGBTQ communities. It is for everyone to learn how to be better allies and increase awareness of resources on our campus and in Buffalo. The goal of this training, offered annually to UB coaches, staff and student-athletes, is to inspire others to create safe and affirming environments for all members of our community.
