Bulls Host Eagles in Final Home Game of the Season

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo men's basketball program (16-13, 6-10 MAC) will host the Eastern Michigan Eagles (10-19, 4-12 MAC) on Tuesday evening. Tip-off on Senior Day from Alumni Arena is set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+. The Bulls will honor Noah Batchelor, Angelo Brizzi, Ezra McKenna and Derrick Talton Jr. prior to the game. Josh Whetzel and Bob Gaughan will be on the radio call on Buffalo 1520/Rochester 1280 and on the Varsity Network App.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bulls are coming off a costly 75-70 home loss to the Central Michigan Chippewas on Saturday. For the second straight game, Ryan Sabol led the Bulls in points and rebounds with 17 and four, respectfully. He also finished 5-of-12 from deep. Angelo Brizzi tallied 14 points and a career-high six assists. Derrick Talton Jr. finished with 10 points, six assists and a game-high three steals. Tim Oboh scored 10 points to go with his two blocks.
ABOUT THE EAGLES
• Eastern Michigan Head Coach Stan Heath is in his fifth season with the Eagles where he's led them to a 57-97 (.370) overall record. Prior to his time in Ypsilanti, he spent one season at Kent State (2001-02), five season at Arkansas (2002-07) and seven seasons at South Florida (2007-14). In his 18-year career, he holds an overall record of 266-304 (.467).
• The Eagles were selected ninth in the 13-team league in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Poll with 52 points.
• The Eagles are led by Mohammad Habhab (14.1 ppg & 8.4 rpg) and Addison Patterson (13.5 ppg).
THE BULL-ETIN BOARD
• Buffalo's seniors have combined for 4,728 points in their careers over 506 games played.
• Ryan Sabol is within reach of Zach Filzen's 2010-11 program season 110 made threes record as Sabol sits with 105 so far.
• Daniel Freitag is the first Bull to make 150+ free throws in a single season since Justin Moss made 173 in 2014-15. Freitag is currently eighth in program history for most free throws made with 158.
• Ryan Sabol became the first Bull to record a 500-point, 100-assist season since CJ Massinburg did so in 2018-19. The only other Bulls to record such a season are Blake Hamilton (2016-17) and current General Manager Turner Battle in 2004-05.
• Ryan Sabol is the first Bull to record back-to-back 400-point seasons since Jeenathan Williams did so from 2020-22.
• Angelo Brizzi recorded Buffalo's first 50-steal season since Zid Powell did so in 2022-23 when he finished with 53. Brizzi has 53 steals on the season.
• Tim Oboh is fourth in the MAC in blocks per game with 1.7 during conference play. His 27 total blocks is also fourth.
• For the first time since the 2018-19 season, the Bulls have three players with 80+ assists each. Ryan Sabol leads the way with 101 as Derrick Talton Jr. has 92 with Daniel Freitag adding 87 assists.
• In the month of February, Angelo Brizzi led the Bulls in scoring in four of the seven games where he averaged 22.3 ppg, good for the best average and point total (156) in the MAC in that span.
• UB has made 279 three-pointers so far this season. 36.8% of their points have come from three-point range, the top mark in the MAC ahead of Akron's 36.4%.
• UB has recorded 34 20-point performances this season. Last year they finished with just 16 such games. This is the most 20-point games since they recorded 37 in 2018-19.
