Bulls Travel to Northern Illinois to Open Conference Play

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (7-14, 0-0 MAC) will travel to DeKalb, Ill. to face the Northern Illinois Huskies (6-6, 0-0 MAC) this weekend to open MAC play. The series will begin on Friday with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. ET. On Saturday, the Bulls and Huskies will wrap up the series with a game at 1 p.m. ET.
The Bulls are coming off a dominant 13-4 win over the Niagara Purple Eagles on Sunday afternoon. In the win, the Bulls cranked three home runs courtesy of Bella Smithson, Reagan Terwilliger and Abbey Nagel. Smithson racked up four RBIs with Nagel and Delaney Ellis each adding a pair. Nicole Allen, Bri Delaney and Nagel each recorded two hits in the victory. In the circle, Genevieve Longsdorf earned the win as she tossed 5.0 innings with five strikeouts. In relief, Malena Toth threw a shutout inning with a strikeout.
On the season, six Bulls have double figure RBIs with Smithson and Delaney leading the way with 15 each. Nagel has 11 with Emily Gorman, Terwilliger and Allen having 10 RBIs to this point. Gorman has a team-high 26 hits. Joining her in the 20-hit club are Terwilliger (24), Nagel (23) and Allen (20).
In the circle, Olivia Russ leads the way with a 4-5 record and a 5.68 ERA. She has 20 of Buffalo's 43 strikeouts in 49.1 innings pitched.
Northern Illinois enters the weekend with a 6-6 record and are coming off a 7-1 win over Green Bay. Danielle Stewart has a .441 batting average with 15 hits, four of which going for extra bases. She has also scored a team-high 13 runs. Jenna Turner has also recorded 15 hits this season. Mia Morera is up to 12 RBIs through the first 12 games of the season.
