
Bulls Continue Indoor Momentum at Kent State Doug Raymond Invite

KENT, Ohio – The University at Buffalo track and field program competed at Kent State's Doug Raymond Invite on Friday and Saturday, continuing a historic season that is rewriting the UB indoor record book. The program added nine more performances to the all-time ranks. The Bulls also won four events and earned top-five placements in 16 events.
DAY ONE
Kara Moran and Linnea Neureuther made their mark on UB indoor history on day one of the meet. Moran posted an indoor personal record jump of 5.91 meters to place fourth in the field of 28 jumpers. The junior's personal best earned the fifth spot in indoor program history. Neureuther followed suit, posting an indoor personal record mark of 5.73 meters, tying Jessica Cooper (2010) for the ninth spot in program history. The sophomore placed sixth in the event.
Matthew Schaffert also joined the UB indoor rankings, setting a personal best time of 21.77 in the 200-meter. Schaffert surpassed his personal best time of 22.23 to make his mark on program history and take the 10th spot in the UB indoor rankings. Schaffert placed seventh of 51 sprinters in the event. Sam Mellinger also posted a top 10 placement, finishing 10th with a personal best time of his own (22.03). Braden Dunn placed 14th with a time of 22.23 and Kala'i Leahey-Makanani rounded out Buffalo's sprinters in 22nd (22.69).
On the women's side of the 200-meter, Sophia Sampson finished 11th of 46 runners with a time of 25.37. Uma Bhattacharjee also earned a top 15 placement, taking 13th with a time of 25.42. Hailey Martinez (18nd, 25.96), Stephney Pryce (21st, 26.34), Amelie-Johanna Fraeger (24th, 26.51), Jayne Williams (25th, 26.53) and Sina Ehrhardt (30th, 26.78) rounded out the Bulls' competitors.
Stella Kapp won the women's high jump with a mark of 1.71 meters. The sophomore was just shy of her personal best (1.75m), which ranks second in the conference. Akuot Kuany placed third to put a second Buffalo athlete in the top three, posting a mark of 1.65 meters. Adriana Ellsworth earned another top-five finish for the Bulls, taking fifth with a jump of 1.60 meters.
On the men's side of the high jump, Tyler Norton finished third with a time of 1.95 meters. Norton was just shy of his indoor personal best in the event (1.97m).
Allison Newton won the women's mile with a new personal record time of 5:01.91. The personal best was just shy of the UB indoor rankings (4:59.93). Meghana Reddy trailed Newton to earn second place with a personal best time of 5:06.64. The sophomore surpassed her previous best of 5:08.81. Sophie Brettholtz was the third Buffalo runner to earn a top-five finish and a personal best time (4th, 5:08.44). Reese Wilber (9th, 5:17.79), Delaney Mansfield (10th, 5:17.85) and Ella Reilly (11th, 5:18.58) also earned top 12 placements in the field of 25. Mansfield and Reilly's times were also personal bests.
On the men's side of the mile, the Bulls had three runners earn top 10 placements. Michael Huebner earned third place with a time of 4:20.63. Luke Stoeffler (7th, 4:22.58) and Xavier Gordon (9th, 4:23.20) also finished inside the top 10. Nicholas Morgan (16th, 4:26.51) and Chris Turner (17th, 4:28.92) also competed for the Bulls.
Brianna Urban won the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:08.66, setting a new personal best time. Urban surpassed her previous indoor best in the event of 18:52.35. Kaitlyn Edinger earned another top five finish in the event for the Bulls, taking fourth with a time of 18:41.19. In the men's 5,000-meter, Connor Domoy earned fourth place of 17 runners with a time of 15:17.95.
Micah Blair placed fourth in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.10 meters. Freshman Nicalis Williams also competed, placing 11th in the field of 26 with a jump of 6.74 meters.
Loretta White earned sixth place in the women's weight throw with a season-best mark of 16.83 meters. The junior was just shy of her personal best throw in the event (16.87m). Bernice Balk finished 22nd with a personal best mark of 14.36 meters. Faith Hamilton rounded out the Bulls' competitors (26th, 13.43m).
In the men's weight throw, Julian Vitucci was the Bulls' top finisher. The freshman posted a personal record mark of 15.56 meters to place 14th of 31 throwers. Kenneth Gulloso also earned a top 20 placement, ranking 16th with a throw of 14.83 meters. Aiden Walker (21st, 14.04m) and Dominic Weatherly (27th, 12.75m) also competed for the Bulls.
DAY TWO
Gemma Galligani earned fourth place in the 60-meter hurdles finals with a time of 8.60. The junior continues to make her mark on program history, posting a new personal record in the preliminary round of 8.55 seconds. Galligani's time was her fourth personal best performance in the event this season, rising to fourth in UB indoor history. Neureuther also competed in the event finals, taking eighth with a time of 9.04. The sophomore qualified for the finals with a time of 9.01.
In the men's 60-meter hurdles, Michael Parks finished third with a time of 8.06 seconds. In the preliminary round of the event, Parks posted a new personal record of 7.93 seconds, surpassing his previous best of 8.00 to rank third in UB indoor history.
Neureuther was the team's top finisher in the women's triple jump, earning fifth of 25 athletes in the event with a mark of 12.24 meters. Moran placed sixth, setting a new indoor personal record in the event of 12.09 meters. The mark rose to eighth in UB indoor history.
In the men's triple jump, both Blair (3rd, 14.56m) and Williams (4th, 14.39m) earned top-five placements. Blair's mark of 14.56 meters was a new personal record that joined UB indoor history to rank 10th. Mitch Diamond also competed for the Bulls, placing seventh with a mark of 14.21 meters.
Krista Perry competed in the women's pentathlon, setting a new personal record of 3,595 in the event to take the eighth spot in UB indoor history. Perry began the five-event competition with a sixth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, posting a personal best time of 8.83. The senior then placed fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.57 meters and fourth in the shot put with a personal best throw of 11.42 meters. Perry closed out the pentathlon by placing sixth in the long jump (5.17m) and second in the 800-meter (2:27.90). The senior finished sixth in the event overall.
Vassi Klock set a new personal best time in the women's 800-meter of 2:11.79 to place second in the field of 40 runners. Klock's time rose the UB indoor ranks to tie Kate Kohout (2006) for seventh in program history. Newton (3rd, 2:13.41) and Bronagh Cassidy (5th, 2:15.27) put two more Buffalo runners in the top five. Reddy (11th, 2:18.14) and Brettholtz (12th, 2:18.35) added two more top 12 placements in the field of 40 runners.
Amber McDonald (5th, 7.76) and Uma Bhattacharjee (8th, 7.84) both competed in the event finals of the 60-meter dash. McDonald's time of 7.76 fell just shy of the UB indoor record book (7.73). Hailey Martinez (7.88) placed ninth in the preliminary round, just missing the finals qualifying mark. Freshman Olga Skolasinska also competed for the Bulls (24th, 8.22).
The Bulls had three top 10 finishers in the women's 400-meter. Sampson placed fifth with a time of 58.56. The sophomore's time was under two seconds shy of the program's record book (56.83). Williams (7th, 59.69) and Fraeger (10th, 59.93) also earned top 10 placements. Both athletes set new personal records in the event. Pryce (14th, 1:00.42) and Ehrhardt (16th, 1:00.70) also competed for the program, putting five Bulls inside the top 16 runners in the field of 45.
On the men's side of the 400-meter, Huebner finished fourth with a time of 49.37. The freshman's time fell just shy of the program record book (48.88). Leahey-Makanani also earned a top 10 placement, taking sixth with a personal record time of 49.62. Gordon (19th, 51.67) and Morgan (29th, 52.84) also competed for the Bulls.
Lexi Bernard finished sixth in the women's 3,000-meter with a time of 10:45.08. The time was a personal best for the senior, crushing her previous best of 11:01.08.
Balk placed ninth in the women's shot put with a mark of 12.15 meters. Bryson Bodner was the Bulls top finisher in the men's shot put with a throw of 15.08 meters, placing 14th of 43 throwers. Walker (16th, 14.87m) and Weatherly (19th, 14.30) also earned top 20 placements.
The Bulls closed out the two-day competition by winning the women's 4x400-meter relay. The team of Williams, Galligani, Ehrhardt and Fraeger lapped the track to finish the event in 3:56.69.
