BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo track and field program is continuing its season at the SPIRE Midwest Open this Saturday in Geneva, Ohio. The Bulls will attend the meet at SPIRE for the third consecutive season. Action is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
The Bulls have enjoyed a record-breaking indoor season so far, posting 16 performances that joined the UB indoor ranks. The program most recently had seven indoor personal best performances at Penn State's Nittany Lion Challenge, rising the program, conference, regional and national ranks.
Linnea Neureuther was one of the Bulls' most notable performances from Penn State, setting a new indoor personal record in the triple jump of 12.50 meters. The mark rose to fifth in UB indoor history, first in the Mid-American Conference, first in the NCAA Northeast and 34th across the NCAA. Neureuther is set to compete in the 60-meter hurdles and long jump this weekend at SPIRE.
Ryan Cardichon also shined at Penn State, posting a mark of 2.06 meters in the high jump to rank first in the MAC. The sophomore placed third in the event and was just shy of his personal best indoor mark (2.07m) that ranks sixth in program history. Cardichon will compete in the long jump this weekend at SPIRE. The sophomore's indoor personal best in the event is 6.92 meters.
Akuot Kuany and Stella Kapp are expected to compete in the women's high jump. The duo is tied to rank fourth in UB indoor history, each reaching a personal record mark of 1.75 meters. Kapp tied her indoor personal record earlier this season at Houghton's December Classic, ranking first in the conference this season.
Rylee VanAlstine, Malachi Taylor, Kala'i Leahey-Makanani and Keoni Chong have been strong for the Bulls in the 200-meter and 400-meter events, all four of whom will compete this Saturday. VanAlstine is set to compete in both, with his indoor personal best in the 400-meter ranking 10th all-time for the Bulls. Taylor (49.32) and Chong (49.75) lead the Bulls in the 400-meter this season, both being freshmen.
