9/11/2025 10:23:00 AM | Women's Volleyball
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (2-2, 0-0 MAC) will host their second tournament of the season with the Buffalo Classic this weekend. UB welcomes the Northwestern Wildcats (5-1, 0-0 Big Ten), Cornell Big Red (2-2, 0-0 Ivy League) and the Niagara Purple Eagles (0-5, 0-0 MAAC). Every match this weekend can be watched on the UB Bulls YouTube channel.
The Bulls are coming off a loss to the No. 25 Dayton Flyers last week at the Marquette Invite. It would unfortunately be the only match they'd play over the weekend due to a tragic situation at Marquette.
UB will open the weekend on Friday against Northwestern at 6 p.m. The Wildcats lead the all-time series, 3-0. The last meeting between the programs was in 2018. Northwestern's only loss on the season came against No. 20 Baylor in five sets. In their wins, they've only dropped a total of four sets.
On Saturday, the Bulls will play Big 4 rival Niagara at 7 p.m. The Purple Eagles are looking for their first win of the season as they've played in tournaments at Syracuse and Eastern Michigan. There will be a familiar face on the bench for the Purple Eagles as Stacia Gollogly, '24, was added as an assistant coach in the offseason. Buffalo leads the all-time series, 52-10. The Bulls hosted Niagara last season where the Bulls came out on top, 3-1.
The weekend will come to a close when the Bulls host the Cornell Big Red on Sunday at 1 p.m. Cornell has wins over Canisius and Colgate this season. Cornell leads the series against the Bulls, 16-7. The Big Red won the last contest over UB in 2019, 3-2, as they've taken the last three matches from the Bulls.
As a team, the Bulls are 83rd in the NCAA and second in the MAC with a .248 hitting percentage. From the service line, Buffalo averages 1.87 aces per set, good for 60th in the country and third in the MAC.
Manoela Forlin has been the Bulls' leader in points per set with 4.27. Her 107th ranking in the country is fifth in the conference.
