Bulls and Broncos Square Off for Weekend Series

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo softball team (7-22, 2-6 MAC) will travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. for a three-game series against the Western Michigan Broncos (8-25, 2-6 MAC) beginning Friday at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader. The series will wrap up on Saturday with a time to be announced later due to weather.
On the season, freshman Emily Gorman leads the Bulls with a .434 batting average with a team-high 36 hits and 18 runs scored. Gorman also leads the team with a .525 on base percentage, but Lily Lauck is just behind with a .451 percentage. Lauck has a team-high 22 walks. Isabella Smithson leads the team with 21 RBIs. Mia Mitchell leads the team with 10 extra base hits as Abbey Nagel has a team-high 8 doubles thus far.
The Bulls are coming off a sweep of the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Tuesday afternoon. After a tight 10-7 win, the Bulls mercied the Bonnies in five innings, 13-3. Miranda Zipp recorded her first career hit for the Bulls as she hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning of game two. Leading the way for the Bulls offensively was Gorman as she went 5-for-7 with a pair of doubles, a triple and 3 RBIs. Abbey Nagel went 4-for-6 from the dish with a pair of doubles and RBIs. Freshman Isabella Smithson went 4-for-6 with a double and 4 RBIs.
Buffalo vs. Western Michigan
SERIES: Western Michigan leads, 27-18
STREAK: Western Michigan 1
NOTES: Buffalo has won three of the last five meetings. The Bulls and Broncos met last March 24th at Nan Harvey Field for a doubleheader. In a tight series, the Bulls took game one, 3-0. Mia Mitchell led the team with 2 hits and a run in the opening game. The Broncos snuck out a 1-0 win in the second game with the lone run coming in the sixth inning.
