
Buffalo’s Hot Bats Persevere Through Cool Conditions

GAME 1
The Bonnies struck the first blow in the first inning to take the 1-0 lead. However, the Bulls responded in the bottom half as Miami Mitchell hit a sacrifice fly to score Emily Gorman.
In the third inning, the Bonnies scored a pair of runs to go up 3-1. Buffalo answered right back as Mitchell added another RBI to her total on a single to center field. With the bases loaded, Ardyn Hopf hit a sacrifice fly to right that scored Mitchell. Isabella Smithson singled to the shortstop to load the bases back up with Talynn Williams up to the plate. Williams then walked to score Abbey Nagel and give the Bulls a 4-3 lead.
St. Bonaventure regained the lead in the fourth inning as they scored 2 runs on a single.
Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth, Avelyn Van Heyst flipped the script as she hit a base clearing double to right center to score Hopf, Miranda Zipp and Nagel. Buffalo took a 7-5 lead headed into the sixth.
The Bonnies managed to tie the game at 7. Gorman led off the bottom of the sixth with a double to center field and advanced to third on a Mitchell fly out. Nagel then ripped a single up the middle to score Gorman to put the Bulls in front, 8-7. Lily Lauck walked to put two runners on. After advancing on a wild pitch, Smithson singled to right field to give Buffalo a 10-7 lead. The Bonnies went down in order as the Bulls took the contest, 10-7.
Genevieve Longsdorf struck out a career-high 8 batters in 5.1 innings in the circle. Olivia Russ came in in relief and took the win after tossing 1.2 innings with 2 strikeouts.
GAME 2
It was an offensive explosion in the second game of the day. The Bonnies scored 2 runs in the top of the first, but the Bulls cut the deficit in half as Abbey Nagel doubled to center and scored Emily Gorman.
St. Bonaventure went down in order in an unconventional way as Lily Lauck threw out a runner attempting to steal second base. Buffalo carried that momentum as Gorman gave the Bulls the lead with a 2-RBI double to score Regan Terwilliger and Avelyn Van Heyst to take a 3-2 lead.
The Bulls surrendered the lead in the top of the third as an RBI double by the Bonnies tied the game. That's all St. Bonaventure managed to do on the day, as it was all Buffalo the rest of the way.
Buffalo took a 7-3 lead in the bottom of the third as Isabella Smithson doubled to left that scored Lauck and Nagel. Van Heyst added to the lead as she grounded out to second base that scored Smithson. Ava Thelen hit a sacrifice fly to left which scored Delaney Six.
The Bulls added to their lead in the fourth inning as they scored 6 runs on 5 hits and an error. Mitchell led the inning off with a single up the middle and then stole second base. Nagel then walked to put two runners on. Lauck doubled to the right field wall which scored both runners to give the Bulls a 9-3 lead. After a Smithson walk, the Bonnies made a pitching change. Thelen hit her first career triple which scored a pair of runs to make it an 11-3 lead. Terwilliger then singled to score Thelen to go up 12-3. Gorman hit another RBI single to extend the lead to 13-3.
The Bonnies went down in order as Marissa Calloway threw 2 shutout innings.
On the day, the Bulls put together 23 hits to go with their 23 runs.
The Bulls are back in action on Friday as they'll travel to Western Michigan for a three-game series.
