Amos, Gabalski and Kapp Rise UB Outdoor Ranks at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, TEXAS – The University at Buffalo track and field program participated among national competition at the Texas Relays this past Wednesday through Saturday. On the big stage, the Bulls set numerous personal records, with three performances joining the all-time program ranks.
WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY
Kevin Gabalski competed in the men's decathlon on the first two days of the meet for the Bulls, setting a new personal record of 6,697 to rise to fourth in UB outdoor history. The senior placed 16th overall in the event.
Gabalski opened the men's decathlon on day one by finishing eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.97. The senior then placed 18th in the long jump with a mark of 6.50 meters and 19th in the shot put with a throw of 11.66 meters. Gabalski closed out day one by taking 11th in the high jump (1.83m) and 14th in the 400-meter with a new personal record time of 50.68.
The senior opened day two of the decathlon with a new personal record time of 14.72 in the 110-meter hurdles. Gabalski's time was three-tenths of a second shy of reaching the UB outdoor all-time top ten (14.45). Gabalski placed 12th in the discus throw with a mark of 34.10 meters and 14th in the pole vault (4.05m). The senior set a new personal record in the javelin throw (44.04m) and then closed out the decathlon with a time of 5:02.07 in the 1,500-meter.
FRIDAY
Stella Kapp highlighted the second day of competition for Buffalo, joining the all-time UB record book in her outdoor debut. Kapp tied Judy Sistrunk (1987), Jennifer Rosetti (2001) and Antoinette Miller (2021) for tenth on the all-time event list with a mark of 1.63 meters.
Gemma Galligani opened day two for the Bulls by posting a new personal record in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.54. Freshman Krista Perry also competed in the event, finishing with a time of 14.91 to beat her outdoor debut performance from the previous week of competition (15.25).
Freshman Sophia Sampson finished the women's 100-meter with a time of 12.34. Sampson was less than half a second shy of reaching the all-time UB outdoor top ten (12.03).
SATURDAY
On the final day of the competition, senior Zahra Amos brought her best. Amos set a new personal record in the women's high jump with a mark of 1.78 meters, rising to third on the all-time UB outdoor leaderboard. The senior beat her previous best of 1.76 meters, now only trailing school record holder Emma Siuciak (1.83m, 2013) and second-ranked Shelly Hamilton (1.81m, 1999).
