Bulls Win Four Medals on Day Four To Close Out MAC Championships in Buffalo

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo swimming and diving program closed out the MAC Swimming & Diving Championships with day four of competition in Buffalo. The Bulls earned four medals on the final night, taking fourth of the eight teams in attendance with 576.5 points.
THREE-METER DIVING
Marialis Kwak defended her three-meter title, winning her fifth MAC gold medal with a score of 329.25. The senior completed her undefeated season in the diving well, earning her 17th consecutive event win. Kwak was named the 2024-25 MAC Diver of the Year following the conference championships, marking the third time the senior has earned the honor.
Presley Dorsett won her second MAC medal in the three-meter, taking silver with a score of 281.20. Dorsett has now medaled in the three-meter at MAC Championships for two straight seasons. Sophie Meuwissen earned her first MAC medal, taking third in the three-meter with a score of 269.05.
Kaylee Donovan was the fourth Buffalo diver to finish inside the top eight, taking sixth place with a score of 256.65. In all, the Buffalo divers contributed 66 points on night four.
Kwak (1st, 319.40), Donovan (3rd, 262.85), Meuwissen (5th, 261,30) and Dorsett (8th, 246.35) all qualified for the three-meter diving finals on Friday night.
UB Diving Coach Russ Dekker was named the MAC Diving Coach of the Year. Dekker has now earned the award for five consecutive seasons.
IN THE POOL
Mia Naccarella doubled back on Saturday night to close out the competition with another school record and another silver medal. The fifth-year finished the event with a time of 1:55.28, trailing the first-place finisher by less than a second (1:54.59). Naccarella surpassed Abigail Malmstrom's school record time of 1:55.77, set in 2023. The fifth-year set a new school record earlier in MAC Championships in the 100-yard backstroke (52.39).
Vivian Roy finished sixth in the consolation finals of the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:00.15. Malmstrom trailed with a time of 2:02.13 to take seventh. Roy (11th, 1:59.90) and Malmstrom (15th. 2:01.02) posted season-best times in the preliminary round of the event to qualify for the consolation finals.
Grace Rider finished sixth in the finals round of the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:16.17. Rider qualified for the finals with a new personal record time of 2:15.53 in the preliminary round. The sophomore's time entered the program ranks to take fourth on the all-time list for the 200-yard breaststroke.
Ava Pauly missed the consolation finals cut of the 200-yard breaststroke by under two-tenths of a second (2:20.91), finishing the event in 2:21.06. The freshman's time was a season-best.
Isabella Forsman posted a new personal record of 2:01.20 to finish fourth in the 200-yard butterfly finals. The freshman's time was less than half of a second shy of reaching the all-time top ten (2:00.85). Forsman qualified for the 200-yard butterfly finals with a time of 2:02.73 in the preliminary round.
Nicole Aguilar took first place in the consolation finals of the 200-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 2:02.44. The junior was less than two seconds shy of her personal record (2:00.62) that ranks seventh in program history. Aguilar finished ninth in the preliminary heats with a time of 2:04.15 to punch her ticket to the consolation finals.
Freshman Maddy Schnelzer took sixth place in the consolation finals with a new personal record of 2:04.79. Senior Amanda Neeb had a season-best time of 2:05.23 to finish eighth in the consolation finals. Schnelzer took the last spot in the consolation finals with a preliminary round time of 2:06.79. Neeb placed 13th in the preliminary round to qualify for the consolation finals.
Ava Cunningham finished fifth in the 1650-yard freestyle with a new personal record time of 17:01.69. Cunningham missed the program's all-time top ten by less than half a second (17:01.20). Elise McCaul trailed to take eighth in the event with a personal record time of her own (17:09.47). Karen Austin also competed for the Bulls, finishing 11th with a time of 17:16.37.
The Bulls did not have a swimmer qualify for the 100-yard freestyle finals despite a series of season-best and personal record times. Jillian Strine missed the consolation finals cut by two-hundredths of a second (51.16) with a new personal record time of 51.18. Sawyer Bosley was next to place for the Bulls, taking 25th with a time of 52.18. Abbey Gardner posted a new personal record performance with a time of 52.39 to finish 30th. Alicia Wood (52.78) and Aurelie Walker (53.11) also had season-best times in the preliminary heats.
