Naccarella Surpasses School Record on Night Three of MAC Championships in Buffalo

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo swimming and diving team hosted day three of the Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in an energy-packed Alumni Arena Natatorium on Friday. The Bulls finished the night in fourth with a score of 358, still sitting in striking distance of a podium finish.
Mia Naccarella headlined the third night of conference championships for the Bulls, earning a silver medal and surpassing her school record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.40. The fifth-year earned a MAC medal for the 10th time in her career. Naccarella year punched her ticket to the finals earlier in the day with a third-place finish in the preliminary round and a time of 53.18.
Vivian Roy placed sixth in the consolation finals of the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.06. Roy earned her trip to the consolation finals with a new season-best time of 54.80. The sophomore's preliminary round time was two-tenths of a second shy of her personal record that ranks fifth all-time in program history (54.68).
Freshman Isabella Forsman earned a silver medal in the 400-yard individual medley with a new personal record time of 4:16.60 to rank third in program history. In the preliminary round, Forsman won the second heat with a time of 4:21.80 to punch her ticket to the finals. Elise McCaul earned a sixth-place finish in the finals, ending the event with a new personal record time of 4:23.67. McCaul's time was just under two seconds shy of reaching the program record book (4:22.25). The sophomore finished the preliminary round in seventh with a time of 4:24.13.
Karen Austin placed fourth in the consolation finals of the 400-yard individual medley with a season-best time of 4:27.78. Before the finals, Austin posted a season-best time of 4:27.88, beating her previous by nearly ten seconds (4:37.56) to qualify for the consolation finals.
Nicole Aguilar finished the 100-yard butterfly finals with a time of 54.45, the fastest time in the event this season for the Bulls to place eighth. The junior was less than a second shy of her personal record of 53.56 which ranks fourth in program history. Aguilar posted a season-best time of 54.24 in the preliminary round of the 100-yard butterfly to qualify for the finals.
Maddy Schnelzer (19th, 56.19) and Amanda Neeb (20th, 56.23) missed the finals cut by less than a tenth of a second (56.16) in the preliminary round of the 100-yard butterfly. Neeb's time was a season-best. Aurelie Walker (32nd, 57.34) also posted a season-best time in the preliminary round.
Sawyer Bosley took seventh place in the finals round of the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.83. Bosley qualified for the finals by finishing sixth of 47 swimmers in the preliminary round with a season-best time of 1:50.04.
Abbey Malmstrom took fourth (1:50.52) and Abbey Gardner finished fifth (1:50.84) in the 200-yard freestyle consolation finals. Gardner was half a second shy of her personal record in the event (1:50.32). Malmstrom finished 14th in the preliminary round (1:50.95) with Gardner in 15th (1:51.00).
Ava Cunningham placed 17th in the preliminary round of the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.38, falling just shy of the consolation finals cut (1:51.38). Jillian Strine finished 24th in the preliminary round of the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.11, missing the finals cut by under a second (1:51.26 too). Amanda Jurgelon 35th, 1:55.16) and Alicia Wood 44th, 1:55.92) also competed in the preliminary round for the Bulls.
Grace Rider earned a sixth-place finish in the finals round of the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.40. The sophomore set a new personal record of 1:02.23 in the morning preliminary round of the event to remain at fourth in the all-time UB ranks.
Ava Pauly earned a seventh-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke consolation finals with a time of 1:04.09. Pauly finished tenth in the preliminary round of the 100-yard breaststroke with a new personal record of her own in the event to also remain tenth in program history. Pauly missed the top eight finals cut by less than a second (1:02.83).
The Bulls closed out the night with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Strine, Forsman, Aguilar and Roy posted a time of 1:32.40.
DIVING
Friday marked the beginning of three-meter diving at MAC Championships. The Bulls took four of the top eight spots in the finals and two of the eight spots in the consolation finals.
Marialis Kwak (1st, 319.40), Kaylee Donovan (3rd, 262.85), Sophie Meuwissen (5th, 261,30) and Presley Dorsett (8th, 246.35) all qualified for the three-meter diving finals that will take place on Saturday night.
Mallory Hanna (11th, 258.00) and Maggie Meyers (12th, 246.15) competed in the consolation finals for the Bulls. In the preliminary round, Hanna finished 12th with a score of 236.00. Meyers took the 16th spot to punch her ticket to the consolation finals with a score of 224.70.
Daphne Fox rounded out Buffalo's competitors in the three-meter, placing 28th with a score of 196.50.
