Women’s Basketball Opens Mid-American Conference Play at Toledo on Wednesday

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo women's basketball team opens Mid-American Conference play on Wednesday at Toledo. The Bulls are 3-2 all time on New Years Eve, most recently a 71-45 win over Miami (OH) on December 31, 2016.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Mason Lowry (play-by-play) and Rhett Boyd (color) announcing and can be heard on AM 1400 and the Varsity Network with Vinnie Christiano III on the call.
This is the 42nd overall meeting between Buffalo and Toledo with the Rockets owning a 31-10 series advantage. The Rockets defeated the Bulls in the MAC Tournament semifinals last season.
Buffalo fell to Abilene Christian 72-48 in the final game of the ACU Christmas Classic on December 20. Graduate student guard Gabby McDuffie led the Bulls offensively, recording a UB career-high with 15 points and freshman Ella Corry also scored in double figures with 11 points, with both shooting an efficient 5-of-7 from the floor. Junior guard Paula Lopez added eight points and sophomore Amber Howard led UB with a career-best eight rebounds.
Lopez leads the Bulls in scoring at 11.6 points per game. She has scored in double figures seven times and is third in the MAC in field goal attempts (142) while ranking eighth in field goals made (49). Freshman Meg Lucas leads the league and ranks 10th nationally in rebounding (10.8 rpg). As a team, Buffalo leads the MAC and rank in the top 15 nationally in offensive rebounds per game (16.9) while also leading the league in three-point field goal defense (.261). Additionally, they rank second in the MAC in steals per game (10.9), third in rebounds per game (41.3) and turnovers forced (19.7) and fifth in field goal defense (.389).
Toledo is 5-5 overall after defeating Long Beach State 64-43 on December 22. They return seven players from last year while adding two freshmen and five transfers to the roster. Preseason All-MAC selection Kendall Carruthers leads the Rockets offensively, averaging 13.6 points per game while also dishing out 2.2 assists per contest. Sophomore Faith Fedd-Robinson is also averaging in double figures at 12.3 points per game while leading the team in rebounding (5.6 rpg). As a team, Toledo is fourth in the MAC in field goal percentage (.43.0) while ranking sixth in rebound margin (+4.7).
The Rockets are is 56-6 at Savage Arena over the past four years. They led the MAC in attendance (4,185) for the 34th straight season in 2024-25 and have been in the top 40 nationally in attendance for each of the last 40 seasons.
