BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo cross country program hosted the Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon at Audubon Golf Course. The Bulls brought their best at home, with the men posting their lowest score since 2020 and the women with their highest placement since 2017.
"It was a fantastic day for championship races," said Program Director and Head Coach Vicki Mitchell. "I couldn't be prouder of both our men's and women's teams for the way they competed and the athletic department as a whole for representing the University at Buffalo in such a great way."
MEN'S 8K
The Buffalo men placed fourth of 10 teams in the 8k race. The team's 97 points tied Akron for third place, but the Zips held the tiebreaker to take sole possession of the podium finish. The Bulls' 97 points were the program's best score at conference championships since 2020 (94).
Jacob Brink led the way for the Bulls with a time of 24:31.4 to place seventh overall in the field of 85 runners. Brink earned All-MAC First Team honors for his performance, becoming the first Buffalo runner to do so since Ryan Buzby in 2022. Noah Brightman trailed Brink closely to finish 12th with a time of 24:41.1. Brightman earned All-MAC Second Team honors, becoming the 12th runner in program history to do so.
Collin Stafford (23rd, 25:05.4), Cameron Bogdan (24th, 25:05.9) and Aidan Norris (32nd, 25:22.0) rounded out the Bulls top five. Matt Gensel (43rd, 25:38.2), Chris Turner (53rd, 26:07.2), Luke Stoeffler (61st, 26:27.6) and Kevin Sherry (66th, 26:37.1) also competed for the Bulls.
"It was a great day for us," said Assistant Coach Tyler Scheving. "We had two men earn All-MAC honors and we were just one point shy of reaching the top three, which was a huge improvement."
WOMEN'S 6K
The Buffalo women placed eighth of 13 programs, the team's highest placement since 2017.
Bronagh Cassidy led the way for the Bulls, finishing 23rd with a time of 21:28.5. The senior was less than ten seconds shy of her personal record (21:19.1). Vassi Klock was next to place for the Bulls, taking 27th with a time of 21:32.1. Jacquie Appenheimer (42nd, 22:02.1), Fiona Klingbeil (62nd, 22:30.8) and Allison Newton (74th, 22:58.4) rounded out the Bulls top five.
Paris Welker (76th, 22:59.4), Ciena Ferguson (78th, 23:01.2), Brianna Urban (82nd, 23:06.3), Megan Smith (100th, 24:03.5) and Sophie Brettholtz (103rd, 24:30.5) also competed for the Bulls.
