BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo football team rallied to defeat Eastern Michigan, 31-30, in overtime on Saturday afternoon at UB Stadium to improve to 2-0 in Mid-American Conference play.
Trailing, 24-21, with 58 seconds remaining, The Bulls marched down the field to the Eastern Michigan 32-yard line with five seconds on the clock. Jack Howes drilled a 50-yard field goal as time expired in regulation to force overtime.
The Bulls got the ball first in overtime and scored on a nine-yard run by Victor Snow to take a 31-24 lead, their first of the game.
Eastern Michigan scored a touchdown on its first possession of overtime and chose to go for the two-point conversion and the win. The UB defense was ready for the play and forced a fumble that Kobe Stewart pounced on to seal the win for the Bulls.
Snow had his best game as a Bull, finishing with six catches for a career-high 136 yards, two receiving touchdowns and the game-winning rushing score. With UB trailing, 7-0, in the first quarter, Ta'Quan Roberson hit Snow over the middle in stride for a 75-yard score to tie the game.
Snow also had a 19-yard reception late in the third quarter to tie the game, 21-21.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Eastern Michigan looked like it might score a go-ahead touchdown. However, Red Murdock punched the ball out of EMU quarterback Noah Kim's arm, just shy of the goal line, and knocked it all the way back to the 24-yard line and the Eagles had to settle for a long field goal.
It was Murdock's 15th career forced fumble, just one shy of the all-time NCAA record for career forced fumbles held by former UB great Khalil Mack.
Murdock finished with 17 tackles and two tackles for loss in the game. Miles Greer and SaVeon Brown added 15 and 10 tackles, respectively – career highs for both.
Roberson threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns in the game. Along with two TDs to Snow, he connected with Patrick Clacks III on a seven-yard score in the second quarter. It was Clacks' first career touchdown.
An unsung hero from Saturday's win was punter Dylan Drennan. The redshirt-freshman averaged 57 yards on five punts, including a career-long 76-yard boot. He had three punts downed inside the 20-yard line, including one at the one-yard line and one at the six and one at the eight.
After a bye week, the Bulls will be back in action on October 18 at UMass.
