BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team put forth a strong showing in the opening weekend of the 2024 fall season as they hosted the "Big 3 Battle" against St. Bonaventure and Niagara at the UB Tennis Courts.
The Bulls won all but two matches in singles action as senior Cheng Tang picked up a pair of wins over the Bonnies while Michael Malkin also swept a pair of matches against SBU and Yu-Shiang Huang earned a win each against the Bonnies and Purple Eagles. Senior Daniils Snaiders and Faiz Nasyam split their matches on the day and Theodoros Mitsakos picked up a three-set comeback victory over Niagara.
UB then swept their matches in doubles action as the duo of Snaiders and Malkin and won all three matches and Nasyam and Mitsakos picked up two wins over the Bonnies. Huang and Tang also defeated Niagara in their lone doubles match of the tournament.
"It was nice to get back out and compete after the summer break," said head coach Lee Nickell. "We are still rusty at spots, but I am very pleased with the level of Rex and Theodoros. We will get back court this weekend and prepare hard for our trip to Yale next weekend."
Buffalo returns to action next weekend at the Yale Invitational.
