BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (3-0, 0-0 MAC) will travel to Pittsburgh to face the No. 4 Pittsburgh Panthers (2-0, 0-0 ACC) on Tuesday evening. The match will be streamed on ACCNX at 6 p.m. Jeff Hathhorn will be on the call with Kelsey Bonk as the analyst. To start the season, the Panthers picked up wins against No. 10 Oregon and Long Beach State.
The Bulls haven't had the best luck against the Panthers. Pitt holds the all-time series record at 8-0. The series dates back to the 1979 season. The Panthers took the last meeting in straight sets on Sept. 5, 2009. This will be the second consecutive season the Bulls will face a nationally ranked opponent as they battled No. 16 Arkansas at the St. John's Red Storm Invite last season.
Over the weekend, the Bulls won the Buffalo Invite as they defeated Oakland, Hampton and Army West Point. This marks the second consecutive season the team has started 3-0. The last time the Bulls started 3-0 in back-to-back seasons came in the 1989 and 1990 seasons. Last season, Buffalo jumped out to a 7-0 start to the season. With a win over Pitt on Tuesday, the Bulls would have their first back-to-back 4-0 starts in program history.
Katrin Trebichavska led the Bulls offensively over the weekend as she earned Buffalo Invite All-Tournament MVP honors. The fifth year outside hitter tallied 68.5 points on 57 kills, 11 aces and one block assist. Her 26.0 points against Hampton and 22 kills against Army West Point are MAC-highs on the season. Against the Hampton Pirates, she hit .429. Overall, she finished with a .331 hitting percentage and 33 digs. She added double-doubles against Oakland and Hampton. Trebichavska averaged 5.18 kills per set, 1.00 aces per set, 3.00 digs per set, and 6.23 points per set.
Abby Leigh and Maria Futey also earned All-Tournament honors after their performances this weekend. A. Leigh appeared in just two matched but finished with 19 kills, a .552 hitting percentage, four total blocks and 26.5 points. Futey closed the weekend off with 48 digs, good for 4.36 per set.
Freshman Emma Converse had a strong collegiate start against Oakland on Friday. She had 11 kills with a hitting percentage of .280.
