BUFFALO, NY – Zahra Amos of the University at Buffalo Track & Field team is set to participate in the NCAA Regionals this Saturday in Lexington, Kentucky, competing in the women's high jump against student-athletes from the East region.
Amos has the chance to become the first female from Buffalo to represent the Bulls at the National Outdoor Championships in the high jump. To do so, the junior will need to be a top-twelve finisher in the event.
"My college track & field career has been a journey," said Amos. "I couldn't be more grateful for this opportunity to represent God, myself and the Bulls this weekend in Kentucky. I've worked so hard for a breakthrough in my sport and I am ready for regionals."
The junior has had a breakout year in the high jump. At the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships, Amos won the event with a new personal best mark of 1.76 meters. The junior's jump tied Zaria Fuller for third all-time in UB outdoor history and was named First Team All-MAC for the second time in her career.
Amos' gold medal in the outdoor event marked her second of the year, also winning the high jump at the MAC Indoor Championships. The junior also had a personal best at the indoor conference championships, setting a new school record with a jump of 1.80 meters. Amos earned First Team All-MAC honors for the indoor season too.
The junior will compete for her chance to go to the National Championships on Saturday at 2 pm. Live results can be accessed here.
