DeKalb, Ill. – The University at Buffalo Track & Field team competed in day two of the MAC Outdoor Championships on the campus of Northern Illinois University. The Bulls brought home three more medals on the second day of conference championships, including Jonathan Surdej bringing home his eighth MAC shot put title and extending the consecutive run of program dominance in the event.
Surdej's throw of 17.77 meters was enough to win his eighth shot put title, falling just short of his all-time outdoor personal best mark of 17.82 meters. The graduate student's eighth title is the most in program history and ties Mark Smith from Eastern Michigan (1982-1986) for the most individual MAC titles in conference history.
Surdej's eighth title also continues the Bulls' streak of outdoor shot put championships, with the Bulls now winning 14 straight outdoor shot put titles. The program's streak dates back to UB Hall of Fame thrower Rob Golabek who won the title from 2010-2012. National shot put champion Jonathan Jones continued the run from 2013-2015. Ryan Cribbin and Devon Patterson then shared the throne from 2016-2019, each winning two titles, before Surdej continued the streak from 2021-2024.
