
Bulls Win 12 Events At St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Members of the University at Buffalo Track & Field team competed in the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic on Saturday. The day of competition featured 12 event wins and several new personal records.
SPRINTS
Stephney Pryce, Amber McDonald, Uma Bhattacharjee and Alexia Jones won the women's 4x100 meter with a time of 48.57. The underclassmen also had success in individual events. Pryce (3rd, 26.01), Bhattacharjee (3rd, 26.30) and McDonald (6th, 26.83) all finished inside the top ten in the women's 200 meter. Pryce also won the women's 400 meter, finishing in 59.17. The freshman was less than a second shy of her personal best. McDonald later won the women's 100 meter with a season best time of 12.32 seconds.
On the men's side of sprints, Justin Kleppel finished sixth in the finals round of the men's 100 meter with a season best time of 11.22. Brandon Robinson took third place in the men's 200 meter and finished in 22.38. Robinson's time is a season best.
Julian Smith (3rd, 50.40), Robinson (4th, 50.40) and Andrew Core (7th, 50.41) all finished inside the top ten in the men's 400 meter. Core's time was a new season best.
Kevin Gabalski (1st, 15.00), Humphrey Banful (2nd, 15.48), Noah Ruffer (4th, 16.19) and Brady Hughes (5th, 16.21) all qualified for the men's 110 meter hurdle finals. Gabalski later won the event finals, finishing the event in 14.93. Banful took second with a time of 15.53. Both runners recorded season best times.
Jason Colindres won the men's 400 meter hurdles, finishing with a season best time of 55.24. Colindres' time ranks sixth in the Mid-American Conference.
DISTANCE
Matt Gensel opened the morning for the Bulls with a win in the men's 5,000 meter and a time of 14:50.18. Paris Welker then won the women's 10,000 meter with a new personal best time of 39:02.73. The event wins foreshadowed what would come to be a strong day for the Bulls' distance team.
Reese Wilber won the women's 800 meter with a season best time of 2:17.54. Jade Dennis (6th, 2:25.53) posted a new season best time. Lauren O'Rourke (7th, 2:27.01) and Brianna Carter (10th, 2:31.01) also finished inside the top ten for the Bulls. On the men's side, Danzil Monk took third (1:58.73). Monk's time was three seconds shy of his season best mark set at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
Bronagh Cassidy won the women's 1,500 meter with a time of 4:50.28. Elizabeth Powers placed fourth in the event, finishing in 5:01.03. Powers' time is a new season best. Lacey Danilovitz (8th, 5:03.09) also finished inside the top ten for the Bulls. Megan Smith (11th, 5:06.67) and Alexandra Cowley (14th, 5:09.45) set new season best times in the event.
Katie Edinger won the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:20.72. The men had success in the event too. Luke Stoeffler won the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase, finishing the event in 9:10.40. Stoeffler's new personal best time ranks sixth all-time in UB outdoor history. William Marchant was a close second-place finisher with a new personal best time of 9:11.38. Marchant's mark ranks seventh all-time.
Cory Demo took second place in the men's 1,500 meter (4:02.71). Demo's time was two-tenths of a second shy of his season best mark.
JUMPS
Adriana Ellsworth won the women's high jump with a jump of 1.57 meters. Ellsworth also qualified for the women's 100 meter hurdles at the, finishing second in the preliminary round (15.91). In the finals round, the freshman placed third (16.07).
Tyler Norton (2nd, 1.94m), Calvin Finger (3rd, 1.84m), Kevin Gabalski (T-4th, 1.79m) and Brady Hughes (T-4th, 1.79m) all finished inside the top five in the men's high jump. All four Bulls had season best jumps.
Amari Hall won the women's triple jump with a personal record mark of 11.22 meters.
THROWS
Kenneth Gulloso joined UB outdoor history on Saturday, finishing third in the men's hammer throw at with a mark of 52.27 meters. Gulloso's throw ranks eighth all-time in UB outdoor history. Gulloso's mark ranks eighth in the conference this season. On the women's side of the event, Loretta White finished second with a throw of 47.06 meters.
Bradley Johnson placed second in the men's shot put with a throw of 14.57 meters, just shy of his record (14.76m). Quintus Simmons finished fifth and earned a new season best mark (13.80m).
Bernice Balk finished fourth with a mark of 12.37 meters in the women's shot put. Balk was six-tenths of a meter shy of her season best throw (12.97m).
