Bulls Come Up Short in 85-79 Loss to Toledo

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team (4-25, 2-14 MAC) battled the Toledo Rockets (18-11, 12-4 MAC) to the bitter end on Saturday as the Rockets snuck out of Alumni Arena with an 85-79 victory.
The Bulls had four players reach double figures scoring. The offensive attack was led by Sy Chatman as recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 25 points and 10 rebounds, both of which were game highs. Isaiah Adams went into the game needing four points to reach 1,000 career points. Adams did it with ease as he scored 19 on the day and added seven boards and five assists. Shawn Fulcher scored 11 while distributing the ball well for four assists.
Zaakir Williamson stayed hot as he put in 10 points of his own going 5-for-6 from the floor. Bryson Wilson added seven points off the bench.
The Rockets went up 3-0 after the opening possession, but Adams tied the game at three to put him at 999 career points. Adams then gave Buffalo a 7-5 lead in style with a dunk to eclipse the 1,000-point mark. The Bulls only held a lead for a total of 40-second in the contest, but held their own with one of the top-seeded teams in the Mid-American Conference. Buffalo tied the game three more times in the first half, including at 33 with just under two minutes to go in the half. Toledo closed the half on a 4-0 run to head into the locker room up, 37-33.
Buffalo stayed with the Rockets and cut their lead to one at 49-48. Toledo then went on a 12-0 run to push their lead to 61-48. The Bulls cut Toledo's lead to five three-times in the second half, but could not overcome the deficit. In just the second half, the Rockets were 19-of-20 from the free throw line as the Bulls were 8-of-8 from the line. Even with the free throw advantage favoring the Rockets, Buffalo was outscored by just two points in the second half, 48-46.
The Bulls racked up 11 blocks on the day, their most since they had 10 at Butler this season. Smith had a career-high four blocks against the Rockets. Chatman's three blocks marked the 13th game this season he's had multiple blocks in a game. Williamson and Wilson added two each.
The Bulls are back in action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. as they host the Ohio Bobcats.
