
Naccarella Sets School Record On Day Three Of MAC Championships

ATHENS, OHIO – The University at Buffalo Swimming & Diving team competed in day three of the MAC Championships on Friday, finishing the night in fourth place with 267 points. Mia Naccarella highlighted day three for the Bulls, earning a silver medal in the 100 backstroke and setting a new school record in the event.
Naccarella completed the 100 backstroke finals with a time of 52.74, breaking her previous program record set earlier this season at the Princeton Invitational. Freshman Vivian Roy was not far behind the senior, taking eighth place in the finals with a time of 55.02. Abigail Malmstrom competed in the consolation finals, finishing the 100 backstroke in 54.96 and placing 13th. Malmstrom's finals time was a season best.
Naccarella finished third in the preliminary round with a time of 53.38. Roy swam a personal best time in the prelims of 54.68, ranking fifth all-time in school history. Malmstrom finished in 12th place with a time of 55.22. Nicole Burton missed the consolation cut by just .30 seconds, finishing with a personal best time of 55.67.
Clarice Fisher had the second of the Bulls' podium finishes on the day, taking third place in the 100 butterfly finals with a time of 53.09. Fisher's time is a new personal best that ranks second all-time in program history. Nicole Aguilar placed 12th in the consolation finals (55.09). In the preliminary round Fisher opened the day for the Bulls with a third-place finish and a time of 53.39. Aguilar took ninth in the prelims with a time of 54.55. Kaley Ream (21st, 56.80) also competed for Buffalo, missing the consolation round cut by a second.
Karen Austin completed the 400 yard individual medley in 4:23.25 to finish sixth in the finals. Kasey Keaney placed 16th with a time of 4:27.88, competing in the consolation finals. In the preliminary round Austin placed fifth with a time of 4:22.92, the fastest time by a Buffalo swimmer this season. Keaney also had a season best time, taking 15th in the prelims with a time of 4:27.74. Elise McCaul missed the consolation round cut by .34 seconds, placing 17th with a personal best time of 4:28.94.
Marij van der Mast (10th, 1:49.24) and Malmstrom (11th, 1:49.57) both finished the 200 yard freestyle finals with season best times, earning points for the Bulls in the consolation finals. In the preliminary round both van der Mast and Malmstrom finished ninth with a time of 1:49.65. Alicia Wood (25th, 1:52.70) Ava Cunningham (26th, 1:52.70) a had a time of 1:52.70, placing 26th with a season best mark. Amanda Jurgelon (37th ,1:55.64) and Grace Wood (40th,1:55.85) set new personal records.
Grace Rider was the only Buffalo swimmer to make the finals in the 100 yard breaststroke. The freshman took 10th in the finals with a new personal best time of 1:03.05. Rider finished 12th in the preliminary round with a time of 1:03.36.
The Bulls placed eighth in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.29 and a team of Naccarella, Aguilar, Jurgelon and Alicia Wood.
In the preliminary round of three-meter diving Marialis Kwak took first place with a score 318.30. Presley Dorsett also took a podium spot in the prelims with a third-place finish and a score of 294.50. Sophie Meuwissen (6th, 266.90), Kaylee Donovan (7th, 265.65) and Maggie Meyers (9th, 261.95) also placed inside the top ten.
In the consolation finals of three-meter diving, Meyers finished fifth with a score of 243.35. The finals of three-meter diving will conclude on Saturday, with Kwak, Dorsett, Meuwissen and Donovan competing for Buffalo.
DAY THREE STANDINGS
The final day of MAC Championships begins Saturday morning at 10am with the preliminary rounds of the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly. Finals begin at 6pm.
