BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo edge Kobe Stewart has been named to the final watch list for the Ted Hendricks Award which honors the top defensive end in college football. Stewart is one of 27 players on the list.
Stewart had a breakout campaign in his first season with the Bulls. The junior transfer from Samford led the team and the Mid-American Conference in sacks with 9.5 – the most by a UB player since Khalil Mack had 10.5 in 2013. He added 40 tackles,12 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery en route to earning second-team All-MAC honors.
The players listed on this final version have been included on the first ballot and the voting process is currently underway. The winner will be announced the week of December 16.
The Ted Hendricks Award is named in honor of college football's first three-time first-team All-American. On-field performance, exceptional winning attitude, leadership abilities, contributions to school and community and academic preparedness are some of the criteria used to determine the Award's recipient each year. Members of the national media, head coaches, professional scouts and former winners are included on the Award's selection committee. Candidates may represent any class (Freshman through Senior) as well as any four-year NCAA accredited school. The candidate's primary position must be defensive end.
