Bulls Fall Short in MAC Quarterfinals Against Defending Champs

BOLWING GREEN, Ohio – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (16-16, 12-6 MAC) lost to the four-seeded Western Michigan Broncos (18-12, 13-5 MAC) on Friday evening in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Quarterfinals, 3-1 (19-25, 17-25, 25-19, 18-25).
Katrin Trebichavska led all players with 26 kills on the day while adding 13 digs for her 14th double-double of the season. Abby Leigh finished with 19 kills and a .545 hitting percentage. Mandy Leigh had 47 assists in the match. Maria Futey had a match-high 22 digs as Keira Kleidon added 12.
M. Leigh also had an efficient night on the attack. She finished with 7 kills and a .462 hitting percentage.
The Bulls' offense hit .274 against the Broncos, but they couldn't overcome Western Michigan's offensive attack with a .371 hitting percentage. At the net, the Broncos finished with 10 total blocks to Buffalo's 4.
It was a tough up hill battle for the Bulls in the first two sets as the Broncos led wire-to-wire in the sets.
Down 2-0 in sets, the Bulls rallied in the third set. After taking a 10-9 lead, the Bulls allowed the Broncos to go on a 4-0 run to take a 13-10 lead. Down 14-11, Buffalo used a 9-2 run to take a 20-16 lead. The Bulls won the set, 25-19.
The momentum swung back in favor of the Broncos in the fourth set as the Bulls couldn't keep up. Down 7-1, the deficit was too much to overcome. The Bulls attempted a late comeback as they fought off four set points. Western Michigan won the set, 25-18.
