
Bulls Wrap Up Fall Season at MAC Indoor Tournament

KALAMAZOO, MI - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team wrapped up their fall season this weekend as the Bulls took part in the MAC Indoor Tournament, hosted by Western Michigan.
In doubles action, Clement Mainguy and Theodoros Mitsakos earned an opening round bye and then defeated UIC's Artem Alekseychuk and Milos Mikovic 8-7 and Drew Evans and Anton Arzhankin 8-6, before dropping a hard-fought match with the hosts, 7-6, 6-3 in the championship match.
Also in the A draw, Cheng Tang and Yu-Shiang Huang received an opening round bye before falling to Western Michigan, 8-7.
In the B doubles draw, Michael Malkin and Daniils Snaiders received an opening bye before defeating Ball State's Andrew Hayward and Jenson Bicanic 8-5 and Toledo's Cole Cozens and Matias Olivero 8-3 to advance to the championship match where they defeated WMU's Ashton Adesoro and Solomon Dunsirn 8-3.
Singles play was highlighted by Huang who defeated UIC's Pedro Romano Franco 6-2, 6-0 and WMU's Adrian Quiros Monterrey 6-1, 6-7, 10-3 to advance to the Flight E championship match where he defeated NIU's Iker Dellien 6-3, 7-6.
In Flight B, Mainguy defeated NIU's Federico Scotuzzi 6-2, 6-3 and WMU's Oscar Corwin 7-6, 6-4 to advance to the finals of Flight B where he defeated/fell to Toledo's Cole Cozens, 7-6, 3-6, 11-9 in the championship match. Also in that flight, Snaiders bounced back from an opening round loss with a 6-7, 6-2, 10-8 win over NIU before dropping a match to NIU.
In the C flight, Malkin dropped his opening match but then answered with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Ball State before defeating Toledo's Charlie Snow, 6-1, 6-3.
In the D flight, Faiz Nasyam defeated WMU's Dimitri Moriarty 6-2, 6-2 before falling to UIC's Eldin Nokic 7-5, 6-3 in the semifinals. He then defeated WMU's Brogan Pierce 6-0, 6-0 in a consolation match.
In Flight A, Tang and Mitsakos dropped their opening round matches but then bounced back with wins as Tang defeated Ball State's Nathaniel Webster 4-6, 6-1, 10-4 and Mitsakos defeated UIC's Artem Alekseychuk 4-6. 6-1, 10-3.
"Overall, this fall has been the best fall we have had as a program in over eight years," said head coach Lee Nickell. "Each member of this team has improved, and our results are getting better. We now have to keep the momentum going through the break, so we are even better when we pick back up in January."
