Bulls Fall To Eastern Michigan By Slim Margin In Back-And-Forth Meet

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo swimming and diving team opened MAC competition on Saturday afternoon against Eastern Michigan in the Alumni Arena Natatorium. The Bulls fell to the Eagles by a slim margin in a back-and-forth competition, 149.5-148.5.
THE POOL
Mia Naccarella picked up where she left off in 2023-2024 in the backstroke events, winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.07. The graduate student later doubled back to win the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:02.59, beating out the next closest finisher by five whole seconds.
Isabella Forsman continues to impress in her freshman campaign, winning the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.47. The freshman later won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:05.96. Forsman also took second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.49, setting a collegiate personal record.
Sophomore Grace Rider and freshman Ava Pauly continued their momentum from the meet against Cornell in the breaststroke events. Rider took second place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.27, as Pauly followed to take third with a time of 1:06.87. The two doubled back for another second and third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, with Rider taking second (2:23.54) and Pauly in third (2:26.22).
Jillian Strine added another event win on the day for the Bulls, taking the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.34. The sophomore's time was a new personal record for the event.
Similar to the first meet of the season against Cornell, the Bulls opened and closed the meet with relay event wins. To open the meet, the Bulls team of Naccarella, Rider, Nicole Aguilar and Sawyer Bosley took first with a time of 1:44.12 in the 200-yard medley relay. The Bulls then closed the competition with a win in the 400-yard free relay. The team of Strine, Bosley, Naccarella and Forsman, took the event with a time of 3:28.77.
DIVING WELL
The Bulls dominated the diving well yet again against the Eagles, taking all five of the top five spots in the three-meter event.
2023-2024 MAC Diver of the Year Marialis Kwak won the three-meter with a score of 274.43. Presley Dorsett had a close second-place finish with a score of 273.45. Kaylee Donovan (3rd, 255.15), Maggie Meyers (4th, 246.15) and Mallory Hanna (5th, 243.08) rounded out the top five for the Bulls. Daphne Fox took eighth with a score of 224.93, a new personal best for the freshman.
The Bulls then took four of the top five spots in one-meter diving. Kwak doubled back to win the event, this time with a score of 299.18. Dorsett placed second to Kwak again with a score of 272.93. Hanna was the final podium finisher for the Bulls, taking third with a score of 265.95, as Donovan finished fourth (246.15) and Meyers took ninth (224.15). Fox rounded out Buffalo's divers in the event with a new personal best score of 221.33 and a tenth-place finish.
