Cambridge, MA – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team competed at the ITA Northeast Regionals, on the campus of Harvard University, this weekend.
The weekend was highlighted by a pair of stellar doubles performances from the duos of Theodoros Mitsakos and Clement Mainguy and Daniils Snaiders and Cheng Tang who each advanced to the Round of 16.
Mitsakos and Mainguy opened with an 8-7 win over Bryant and then defeated Binghamton 8-2 before falling to Cornell in the round of 16. Tang and Snaiders defeated Marist 8-2 and Harvard 8-7 before also dropping a contest to Cornell in the round of 16.
In singles action, Mitsakos won his opening match in three sets, 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 before falling to Harvard 6-3, 6-2. Elsewhere in the main draw, Tang battled back from a dropped first set to defeat Harvard 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 before falling to Harvard in the round of 32. Sophomore Michael Malkin started in the qualifying draw where he defeated Boston 4-6, 6-1, 10-5 before seeing his run come to an end with a loss to Yale in the next round.
"This was a solid weekend for us," said head coach Lee Nickell. "Obviously we are disappointed with the losses today, but overall, our guys are showing major improvements in their games. We will take the positives from this weekend as we prepare for the MAC Invite next week."
Up next, Buffalo will return to action next weekend at the MAC Invitational, hosted by Western Michigan.
