Bulls Stumble in 77-66 Road Loss to the Rockets

TOLEDO, Ohio – In their second straight road game, the University at Buffalo men's basketball team (2-15, 1-4 MAC) fell to the Toledo Rockets (11-6, 5-0 MAC) on Tuesday evening, 77-66.
Isaiah Adams had the hot hand for the Bulls' offense, finishing with a game-high 24 points. Sy Chatman added 16 points, five rebounds and three assists. Jonnivius Smith secured 10 rebounds with two blocks and three assists. Ryan Sabol distributed the ball for the Bulls finishing with three assists.
Buffalo got their first lead of the night off an Adams' layup to make it a 12-10 ball game. The two-point lead marked Buffalo's largest lead on the game. Toledo led by as many as nine points by the under-eight media timeout before the Bulls came back. Buffalo chipped away at Toledo's lead with key defensive stops down the stretch. In the final 30-seconds of the half, Smith and Anquan Boldin Jr. blocked two shots to keep the score at 33 apiece. With the game tied at 33 at the half, this marked Buffalo's first halftime tie of the season. Both teams were almost identical at the half as Buffalo was 14-of-34 (41.2%) to Toledo's 14-of-33 (42.4%) from the floor. Both squads made three three-pointers and two free throws.
Out of the half, the Bulls took a 39-37 lead off a Chatman layup. In a blink of an eye, the Rockets led, 47-39 off a 10-0 run. The Buls came back to take a 48-47 lead with a corner Lloyd McVeigh three at the 12:35 mark, but the Rockets answered with a three of their own. Adams buried his third three of the night to propel the Bulls to a 53-52 lead at the 10-minute mark, but it would be their final lead of the night. The rest of the way, the Rockets outscored Buffalo, 25-13.
The Bulls are back in action on Tuesday, Jan. 23 against Ball State. The game will tip-off at Alumni Arena at 7 p.m.
