Bulls Conclude Play at Binghamton Invitational

BINGHAMTON, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team had a solid opening weekend of action at the Binghamton Invitational, facing competitors from Army, Binghamton, Bucknell, Colgate, Cornell, Le Moyne, Niagara and Siena.
The format included eight flighted singles draws and round-robin doubles play.
On Friday, freshman Michael Malkin won his opening match over Army's Vishnu Bodavula 6-4, 6-1 before falling to Binghamton's Ronin Lotlikar 6-3, 2-6, 2-10. Cheng Tang also won his opening match over Army 7-5, 6-1 before falling to Bucknell's Amar Tahirovic 3-6, 3-6. Theodoros Mitsakos won his opening match over Colgate's Jerome Falcon 6-4, 6-1. Finn Macnamara defeated Colgate's Aiden Lee 6-4, 6-0. Yunhan Jiang defeated LeMoyne's Kacper Piekarek 7-6, 6-3. Yu-Shiang Huang defeated Niagara's Manuel Alonso 6-3, 6-3. Daniils Snaiders defeated Siena's Maxwell Acri 6-2, 6-1. In doubles action Tang and Huang defeated Niagara 6-4, Jiang and Dhananjay Karthik Athreya defeated Army 7-5 and Sniaders and Mitsakos defeated Bucknell 6-2.
On Saturday, Huang defeated Army's Michael Zhang 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the finals of his draw while Snaiders picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Army's Daniel Choi to earn a spot in the finals. In doubles action, Malkin and Macnamara picked up a pair of victories, defeating Niagara 7-6(3) before taking down LeMoyne 6-4. Snaiders and Mitsakos also picked up a pair of wins, defeating Bucknell 6-3 before beating Army 6-2. Tang and Huang defeated Siena 6-1.
The final day was highlighted by Huang who won his draw with a thrilling 3-6, 6-4, 11-9 win over Binghamton's Matthew Carlson, Malkin won the consolation match of his draw, defeating Binghamton's Kyle Weekes 6-7, 7-6, 10-5 while Tang defeated Colgate's Josh Israel 6-3, 6-2 in his respective draw's consolation match. Mitsakos also had success in his consolation match, defeating Colgate's Benito Vlassis 6-4, 6-2. In a battle of UB teammates in another consolation match Jiang defeated Macnamara 6-3, 6-2. Snaiders, in the finals of his draw, dropped a heartbreaker 3-6, 7-6, 7-10.
It was also a successful final day of doubles action as Jiang and Karthik Artheya defeated Colgate 6-3, Tang and Huang defeated Army 6-4 and Snaiders and Mitsakos blanked Army 6-0.
