Daniils Sniaders Advances to ITA Super Regionals

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team had a successful weekend at the ITA Northeast Regionals on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, highlighted by the singles performance from Daniils Snaiders, who advanced to the ITA Super Regionals.
Five Bulls entered the singles bracket of the ITA Regionals, which began with the Round of 128 and matches were played until the final eight were determined, who move on to the Super Regionals. Snaiders defeated Niagara's Manuel Alonso 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-2 and then took down Monmouth's Gabriel Busato 7-5, 6-4. He continued his run by beating the top-seed from Cornell, Samuel Paquette, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 to advance to the round of 16 and then on Monday, he matched up against Drexel's Egor Kirakosov winning 6-3, 6-3.
After earning a first-round bye, Cheng Tang defeated LeMoyne's Luka Stojanovic 6-3, 6-4 and Princeton's Aristotelis 6-3, 7-5 before falling one match short of a spot in the super regionals with a hard-fought 7-5, 6-3 loss to Drexel's Hussein El Tawil on Monday. Also in singles action, Theodoros Mitsakos and Finn Macnamara won their opening matches before falling in the second round. Freshman Michael Malkin dropped his lone match of the weekend.
In doubles action, Tang and Yu-Shiang Huang defeated Drexel 8-5 before falling to Princeton 8-5 in round of 32. Macnamara and Malkin cruised to an opening round victory over Wagner, 8-1, before dropping their second match to Columbia 8-0. Mitsakos and Snaiders lost to Binghamton 8-6 in their lone match of the weekend.
"We had a solid weekend overall," said head coach Lee Nickell. "We missed a few opportunities yesterday, but as a group we did a great job of executing the things we worked on after Binghamton. Daniils did an exceptional job of sticking to his game plan and we are very proud of him for qualifying for super regionals.
With his top eight performance, Snaiders will move on to the ITA Super Regionals, held October 21-24 at Princeton. The Bulls return to team action October 28-31 at the Cleveland State Invitational.
