Four Bulls Qualify for NCAA East Preliminary

INDIANAPOLIS - The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field East Regional Championship qualifiers were announced on Thursday afternoon. The four qualifiers from the University at Buffalo include Christina Wende, Jonathan Surdej, Danil Chernov, and Evan Hilbert. The NCAA East First Round Championships will be held at the University of North Florida from May 24-27. For each individual event contested at the NCAA First Round Sites of the Championships, the top-48 declared student-athletes, per gender in each event, are selected into the championships.
MAC long jump champion Christina Wende advances as the No. 31 seed with her school-record jump of 6.24-meters/20'5.75". Wende also qualified in the triple jump as the No. 28 seed after a bronze medal-winning jump of 12.85-meters/42'2". The women's long jump competition is Thursday, May 25 at 6 p.m. and the women's triple jump competition is Saturday, May 27 at 6 p.m.
Jonathan Surdej is making his third consecutive NCAA First Round appearance in the men's shot put. In 2021, he finished 39th in the prelims, and in 2022, he placed 40th. He enters the prelims as the No. 47 seed after his MAC Championship-winning throw of 17.75-meters/57'7.25". The men's shot put competition is Wednesday, May 24 at 6 p.m.
Danil Chernov advances as the No. 48 seed in the men's javelin. His throw of 64.15-meters/210'6" at MAC Championships earned him the gold medal. The men's javelin competition is Wednesday, May 24 at 1:30 p.m.
Evan Hilbert enters the prelims as the No. 44 seed in the men's 1500-meters with his school-record time of 3:42.64. The men's 1500-meters competition is Wednesday, May 24 at 6:30 p.m.
The top 12 individuals in each event contested will advance to the NCAA Final Championships held at the University of Texas from June 7-10.
