
Bulls to Host Spring Opener on Saturday

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The University at Buffalo track and field team will host the UB Spring Opener on Saturday, April 8 at UB Stadium. The meet is set to kick off at 11 a.m. with the men's hammer throw. The track events will begin at noon with the 3000-meter steeplechase.

The Bulls competed at the Texas Relays and the Texas State Bobcat Invitational while sending a squad to the Geneseo Early Season Invite last week.
At the Texas Relays on Friday, Christina Wende set a personal best of 14.35 in the women's 100-meter hurdles, placing 35th of 78 competitors. Her time ranks seventh in the MAC. In the men's 110-meter hurdles. Chineme Ononiwu crushed his previous best by over .3 of a second, running 14.34.
Wende continued her strong weekend at Texas State on Saturday, placing 3rd in the women's triple jump in an outdoor personal best mark of 12.71-meters/41'8.5". Her distance ranks first in the MAC, and second in UB school history. In the men's 400-meters, Tal Hamel ran a season's best time of 47.94, placing 13th of 35 competitors. His mark ranks second in the MAC. Ononiwu set another personal best in the men's 110-meter hurdles with his time of 14.26, placing 9th of 48 competitors.
On Sunday at SUNY Geneseo, the men took 4 of the top 7 places in the 1500-meters, with freshman Noah Brightman finishing second in a personal best time of 3:56.33. In the women's 1500-meters, six Bulls recorded personal bests. Vassi Klock finished 2nd in 4:40.26, and Allison Newton placed 8th in 4:54.23.
Teasha McKoy won the women's discus throw with a personal best mark of 47.61-meters/157'3", winning by over 20'. On Monday, McKoy won the women's shot put title in 13.99-meters/45'10.75", winning by over 2'. Imahni Sinclair won the women's hammer throw by over 13' with her mark of 51.37-meters/168'6".
In the men's shot put, Jonathan Surdej had a season's best mark of 17.19-meters/56'4.75", 1st in the MAC. Surdej was followed by Mark Przybocki with an outdoor personal best of 16.26-meters/53'4.25", 3rd best in the conference.
