Bulls Leave Huskies Seeing Red, Complete Weekend Sweep With 5-2 Win Over Northern Illinois

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team turned in another dominant performance, defeating Northern Illinois 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at Miller Tennis Center. With the weekend sweep, the Bulls improve to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in league play.
For the second straight match the Bulls started strong, winning the doubles point as Aleksandr Kalinin and Daniils Snaiders blanked the Huskies 6-0 at second doubles and Simon Wibler and Finn Macnamara rallied to win in a tiebreak 7-6(4) at first doubles to clinch the first point of the match.
The Bulls carried the momentum into singles action as Kalinin won 6-3, 6-3 at first singles to put UB up 2-0. Freshman Theodoros Mitsakos cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 at fifth singles and Cheng Tang clinched the match for Buffalo with a 7-5, 6-4 victory at third singles.
Wibler overcame a dropped second set, winning 6-1, 6-7, 10-8 at second singles.
"This weekend was a memorable one," said head coach Lee Nickell. "I am so proud of the team's ability to fight after such an emotional win on Friday. This is a step in the right direction and our plan is to keep working hard to prepare for Binghamton next weekend."
Buffalo will have a week off before hosting Binghamton on Saturday, April 8 at 1pm at Miller Tennis Center.
