BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's basketball head coach Becky Burke announced the addition of three student-athletes to the roster for upcoming 2023-24 season in freshmen Alexis Davis and Kirsten Lewis-Williams as well as St. John's transfer Sitota Gines.
Davis, a 6-0 guard/forward from Woodbury, NJ comes to Buffalo after a standout career at Woodbury High School. She recorded over 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds, the first player in school history to accomplish that feat and finished her career as the county's all-time leading scorer with 2,145 career points while recording a double-double in 79 of 86 career games. As a senior, she was named the Colonial Conference Player of the Year and was an All Group 1 First Team selection after averaging a double-double with 25.5 points and 20.2 rebounds per game while adding 1.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.4 blocks per contest. Davis recorded 20 points and 20 rebounds in 13 games and hit the 30-20 mark on four occasions. She scored 20 or more points 18 times, including four 30-point performances, capped by a season-high 36 points against Haddon Heights in the regular season finale. Off the court, Davis is a 4.0 student.
Burke on Davis: "Alexis brings an elite level of physicality on both the offensive and defensive end of the floor. Her ability to score the basketball in multiple ways and defend multiple positions will help our team tremendously. I'm excited to coach someone as competitive and driven as Alexis and it will be an asset in our locker room."
Lewis-Williams, a 5-10 guard from Mooresville, NC, joins the Bulls after a standout career at Lake Norman High School where she was a model of consistency and balance, averaging 15.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.1 over 93 games and was a four-time all-conference selection across a stellar four-year career. She saved her best for last, averaging 20.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.1 steals per game as a senior, while earning Greater Metro 4 Conference Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight year. She led the Wildcats to a 31-1 overall record and an appearance in the 4A state championship game, where she flirted with a triple double, recording 16 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and five steals in the final game of her career. In the run through the state playoffs, Lewis-Williams averaged 28 points, including two performances of 30+, 11 rebounds, six assists and four steals per contest.
Burke on Lewis-Williams: "Kirsten is a fierce competitor with the maturity and leadership qualities of an upperclassman as just a true freshman. Her ability to score on all three levels is tremendous and there's absolutely no doubt that we are a better basketball team with her on it. We are very fortunate to have the chance to coach a person and player like Kirsten."
Gines, a 5-10 guard from Zaragoza, Spain comes to Buffalo from St. John's where she was a teammate of UB commit Katie Burton, appearing in 30 games over two seasons. As a freshman she saw action in nine games, averaging 6.2 minutes, 1.7 points and 1.3 rebounds per game before appearing in 21 games as a sophomore. Gines, joined the Red Storm following two years at John Madejski Academy. She also played for the Reading Rockets, where she recorded a WNBL-high 5.2 steals per contest to earn UK Defensive Player of the Year. Gines proved to be threat on both sides of the ball over the 2020-21 campaign, averaging 14.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. In 2019, Gines played for Aragón's U-16 team, leading her squad to the third position of the league championship before earning all-region MVP. Gines also played four seasons with Stadium Casablanca, helping her team to four-consecutive league championships. In 2018, Gines played for the Spanish national team, helping her squad finish first in the MHL Tournament.
Burke on Gines: "Sitota is an incredible athlete that brings a ton of length to the guard position. She's an elite defender and an incredible transition player. I love her international playing experience and know that it will add a ton of value to our program. We are very fortunate that she is a Bull."
