Bulls Cruise to 6-1 Win over Quinnipiac on Sunday

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team completed its weekend sweep with a 6-1 win over defending MAAC champion Quinnipiac on Sunday afternoon at Miller Tennis Center. With the win the Bulls improve to 12-3 on the season.
The Bulls continued their strong play in doubles action, recording the first point of the match with wins at two positions. Seniors Pia Schwarz and Ambre Amat won 6-1 second doubles and Azra Deniz Comlek and Deanne Choo earned a hard-fought 7-6 win at first.
In singles action, Schwarz cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at first singles and Basak Akbas followed with a 6-0, 6-4 win at third. Comlek won a thriller at second singles, battling to a 7-6, 7-6 win and Amat rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at fourth. Mariana Carvajal Torres rounded out the match with a 6-4, 7-2.
"Really proud of the way the team competed," said head coach Kristen Ortman Maines. "We saw steady improvement throughout the three matches this weekend and we are looking forward to building on that success on our spring training trip before heading into conference play."
Up next, Buffalo will head to Hilton Head, South Carolina for a pair of matches beginning on Tuesday, March against Lafayette.
