Bulls Conclude Weekend Play with 4-3 Win at Northern Illinois

DEKALB, IL – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team wrapped up weekend action with a 4-3 comeback win at Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon. With the win the Bulls improve to 16-4 overall and 2-1 in league play.
The Huskies took the doubles point with wins at first and second doubles to start the match. Mariana Carvajal Torres and Lolina Schietekat Sedas picked up a 6-3 win at third doubles.
Fifth year Basak Akbas gave the Bulls their first point of the match, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 victory at third singles to tie the match at one. Azra Deniz Comlek earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory at second singles and Ambre Amat followed with a 6-2, 7-5 win at the fourth position to give the Bulls a 3-1 lead in the match.
The hosts pulled within one with a victory at first singles, but Gabriella Akopyan came up clutch for the Bulls, clinching the match with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory at fifth singles.
The Bulls return to action on Friday, March 31 as they host Toledo at 1pm at Miller Tennis Center.
