Bulls Sweep Sunday Doubleheader

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team won both of their matches at Miller Tennis Center on Sunday defeating Le Moyne and Niagara by a score of 6-1. With the victories, the Bulls improve to 3-2 on the season.
The Bulls first matched up with the Dolphins where they took the early doubles point with wins at all three positions. Daniils Snaiders and Greg Hastings cruised to a 6-1 win at third singles, Aleksandr Kalinin and Cheng Tang won 6-4 at three and Simon Wibler and Finn Macnamara won a hard-fought 7-6 match at first doubles.
UB had a solid showing in singles action as well, winning five of six matches. Kalinin, seeing his first singles action as a Bull, fought hard in a 6-3, 7-6 win at first singles and Tang battled to a 6-3, 7-6 win at second. Wibler picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win at third singles, Mitsakos cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at fifth and Macnamara won 6-3, 6-1 at sixth singles.
In the night match against Niagara, UB swept the doubles point for the second straight match as Kalinin and Tang won 6-4 at first doubles, Macnamara and Wibler won 6-2 at second and Mitsakos and Yu-Shiang Huang won 6-3 at third doubles.
In singles action, the Bulls came away victorious in five matches. Hastings cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win at fifth singles, Kalinin won 6-3, 6-3 at first and Wibler picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win at third. Mitsakos fought hard in a 6-4, 6-3 win at fourth singles.
It was a marathon match at sixth singles, as Ryan Thompson earned a 7-6 win in the second set to force a 10-point tiebreak third set where he gutted out an 11-9 victory with a fantastic effort.
Buffalo returns to action on Friday, March 3 at Princeton.
