Bulls Host Hilltoppers for Saturday Matinee

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo men's basketball program (1-8, 0-0 MAC) will host the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (6-3, 0-0 CUSA) on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Paul Peck and Matt Mattia will be on the call for ESPN+ while Josh Whetzel and Bob Gaughan can be heard on the airwaves at Buffalo 1520/Rochester 1280 or on the Varsity Network app.
LAST TIME OUT
On Tuesday evening, the Bulls fell to the Butler Bulldogs in their first meeting, 72-59. Sy Chatman recorded 16 points and eight rebounds against the Bulldogs. Chatman has now scored double-digit points in all nine games this season, the only Bull to do so.
Anquan Boldin Jr. finished with 10 points and a team-high three assists. Jonnivius Smith recorded his second game with three blocks as Buffalo finished with 10 blocks in total. Ryan Sabol knocked down two three-pointers. Leading the way with two steals apiece was Shawn Fulcher, Lloyd McVeigh, and Chatman.
The game marked the second of three non-conference opponents the Bulls faced for the first time. On Nov. 11 they played South Alabama, and they'll play at Richmond on Dec. 21.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Bulls and Hilltoppers have only met once in their program's histories. The Bulls won the meeting on Dec. 8, 2021, by a score of 77-67 on the road.
THE BULL-ETIN BOARD
Sy Chatman has scored in double figures in every game for the Bulls this season. His 15.8 ppg is good for ninth in the MAC. Chatman has also added 6.4 rebound per game which is eighth in the MAC.
Jonnivius Smith leads the team with 9.0 rebounds per game, which ranks second in the MAC and 43rd in the NCAA.
Freshman Ryan Sabol leads the team with 16 made three-pointers on the season. He has made at least one three in eight of the first nine games of the season. He failed to make one against St. Bonaventure last Saturday.
Of the eight Division I programs in the state of Kentucky, Buffalo has only played Kentucky (0-2) and Western Kentucky (1-0). They have never faced Bellarmine, Eastern Kentucky, Louisville, Morehead State, Murray State or Northern Kentucky.
Zaakir Williamson made his third consecutive start to his career at Butler. Only Shawn Fulcher and Sy Chatman have started in every game this season.
At home the Bulls average 40.3 rebounds per game with a rebounding margin of +8.3.
