BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's soccer head coach Shawn Burke announced his 2024 signing class on Wednesday. Four student-athletes will join the Bulls for the 2024 season.
"It's with great excitement that we welcome our class of 2024," said Burke. "All four have the ability to come in and make a difference from day one and that will only elevate the group overall. This group will be hungry to get us back to the post season."
Carolyn Hinkle – Millersville, PA – Penn Manor High School – Penn Fusion – Forward/Midfielder
Hinkle comes to Buffalo from Millersville, PA where she currently plays for Penn Manor High School and the Penn Fusion club team. She is coming off a stellar junior season in which she led the Comets to a sectional and league championship for the first time in 10 years. She is three-time Section I All-Star and has led the Comets to the district playoffs three times, including one state tournament playoff appearance. She also helped lead her club team qualify for the ECNL National Playoffs Championships in the 2022-23 season. Off the pitch she is an honor roll student.
Burke on Hinkle: "Carolyn brings versatility to our front five with her ability to play both wide and through the middle. Her club experience with Penn Fusion will have her primed for an impactful freshman season."
Maya Ikewood – Macedon, NY – Palmyra-Macedon High School – Forward
Ikewood comes to Buffalo from Macedon, NY where she currently plays for Palmyra-Macedon High School. She is coming off a stellar junior season in which she broke the school record for career goals and career assists with 117 and 78, respectively, to lead the Red Raiders to a Section IV Class B title. Ikewood has been named the Finger Lakes East Player of the Year four times, has earned Second Team All-State honors three-times, and is a two-time All-Greater Rochester First Team selection. She was also invited to the US Club Soccer id2 Camp in 2020. Off the pitch, Ikewood is an honors student and was the recipient of the Rensselaer Medal Award.
Burke on Ikewood: "Maya will have an immediate impact in the midfield. Not only is she efficient in breaking up the opponent's attack, but she also has a great pulse for tempo and decision making."
Ella McDonald – Clifton Park, NY – Shenendehowa High School – Defender
McDonald comes to Buffalo from Clifton Park, NY where she is a four-year starter for Shenendehowa High School. She helped lead the Plainsmen to a regional championship and state runner up finish in 2021 and is a three-time sectional champion. Individually she earned First Team All-Section and First Team All-Council selection. Off the pitch, McDonald is a member of the high honor role.
Burke on McDonald: "Another great left footed addition to the squad. Ella is athletic and possesses the ability to play both wide and centrally either in the midfield or backline."
Julia Rocky – Strongsville, OH – Strongsville High School – Defender
Rocky comes to Buffalo from Strongsville, Ohio where she plays a major role for a dominant Strongsville High School squad. She has helped lead the Lady Mustangs to 69 wins and a .878 winning percentage, and counting, and has been part of a dominant program that has won a national championship, a state championship, and a runner up appearance, two regional championships, four district championships and four conference championships in her four years with the team. Individually, she was named all-conference as a junior.
Burke on Rocky: "Julia is an athletic and gifted defender who has the skills that will translate well to DI. Coming from an elite level of club and high school in northeast Ohio, she will be prepared for a big role right away."
