FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team (1-4, 0-0 MAC) fell to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (3-2, 0-0 Sun Belt) on Tuesday afternoon, 68-60.
Buffalo's well-balanced offensive attack wasn't enough to take down the Ragin' Cajuns. Sy Chatman and Shawn Fulcher led the Bulls with 13 points apiece. Six other Bulls scored on the afternoon including Ryan Sabol (9), Anquan Boldin Jr. (8), Isaiah Adams (7), Zaakir Williamson (6), Jonnivius Smith (2), Bryson Wilson (2).
The Bulls offensive struggles looked as though they left them behind as they nailed two-three pointers to start the game. Leading 10-5 over Louisiana, Buffalo's offensive woes came back. The Bulls scored two points in an 11-minute span, both of which came from the free throw line. The Bulls had a shooting drought of 0-for-11 in the stretch from the floor.
At the half, the Bulls trailed the Ragin' Cajuns, 33-21. After starting 2-for-2 from three, the Bulls finished 4-of-16 (25.0%) in the first half and shot 7-for-23 (30.4%). Louisiana went 14-for-29 (48.3%) from the floor in the half.
Slowly, but surely, the Bulls tightened the game in the second half. Down by as much as 13, the Bulls made it a three-point game with just over seven and a half minutes to go. Down the home stretch, Chatman and Boldin Jr. made three-pointers to make it a one possession affair. The Ragin' Cajuns knocked down their free throws to ice the game and take home the victory.
Fulcher and Boldin Jr. each finished with three assists, while Boldin added two steals and one block. Chatman finished with a game-high three blocks.
The Bulls will play Iona in their final game of the Gulf Coast Showcase tomorrow at 11 a.m.
